Pune, November 3: : Taking a fresh swipe against the North Indian population in the state, Shiv Sena on Monday alleged that their burgeoning population in the metropolis was adding to the travel woes of 'Marathi Manoos' "It is an irony that the Marathi 'manoos' to whom Mumbai belongs, finds it hard to even enter t  ....Read more

Nehru's mistakes and the new BhindranwaleBy: Prashant | Tuesday , 4 Nov '08 8:02:58 AM Reply | Forward Another one of Nehru's terrible political mistakes is coming back to bite us now, linguistic division of states. Had there been no linguistic reorganization, there would have been no common, regional, plank available to people like Raj. There is an alarming similarity between the rise of Raj and Bhindranwale. It is petty politics that is not stopping Raj from getting his brains right just as it was from 78-84 in Punjab. It was recently reported that Dal Khalsa, founded in part by Bhindranwale has taken a leaf out of Raj's book and is now demanding that "outsiders" leave Punjab. Take care of Raj now or wait for Bombay to become the new Punjab.

Indian RascismBy: pbhgva | Monday , 3 Nov '08 21:13:04 PM Reply | Forward There is little need to analyze and overanalyze the events in Maharashtra in hope of finding some reasonable explanation: iWhat the Shive Sena and offshoots are indulging is is pure rascism and fascism. At a time when the World's oldest Democracy is about to take a giant leap forward in electing a black President; the World's largest democracy is sliding into rascist terror on the streets. What would we say if we saw whites in the U.S. hunting down blacks on the streets of LA: we would slam Americans as rascists. Well this is what WE are: just pathetic rascist bigots unfit fand unready for the "superpower" status. We areshowing the world that we are just another pathetic third world tribal republic with no future.
India was never a homogenous society and never will beBy: Jatin | Monday , 3 Nov '08 20:39:22 PM Reply | Forward Today India (except southern part of India) is overcrowded by UP-Bihar people as population growth in those states are among the highest in India, having the highest unemployment, almost total breakdown of law and order. States like Bihar and UP are the major supplier of semiskilled, unskilled people and corrupt bureaucrats (IAS, IPS etc) all over India. As a result they came into direct confrontation with local working class people and general society more than others. As a result these people are spreading too fast. Majority of them do not have any desire or education to understand the benefit to assimilate into any local culture, be it Maharashtra or Assam or somewhere else. These people need to know that they must accept local culture if they like to settle in someone else’s land. India was never a homogenous society and never will be. The best way forward for the country is to accept that reality and protect local people and their ways of life.
control intra-state migrationBy: Abhijit | Monday , 3 Nov '08 20:35:18 PM Reply | Forward Businessmen and industrialists only love money, not local people or state. We can ask ourselves why Tata left West Bengal, why no large-scale investment is happening in Bihar and UP and why they are investing in states like Gujarat or Maharastra despite of having people like Narendra Modi, Bal and Raj Thakkery. Some politically motivated, huge investment by central govt (mainly by powerful UP, Bihar lobby politicians) is making no dent either in bringing social justice or economic prosperity of local people there in UP and Bihar. Quality of education and research in all the national institutes in UP Bihar are just pathetic. Govt industries are having worse corruption (even in Indian standard) and as good as non-predictive. People are flocking to Mumbai or MH not for charity to Marathi people or MH, but for their own good. And Mumbai and MH have every right to allow some people but not each and everyone to their land to protect their own culture and economy.
We need specific federal laws to control intra-state migrationBy: Jay | Monday , 3 Nov '08 20:31:11 PM Reply | Forward Federal and state governments should start thinking to implement laws to protect vast diversity of Indian culture, language and also control intra-state migration (something like mandatory job card to get house rent, voter ID, ration card etc.). With stringent laws, intra-state migration will continue but without much of its negative impact on local people. This is not a specific case for Maharashtra, but many other states like Assam, Bengal etc are also suffering from uncontrolled influx of unskilled and semi-skilled people from outside states. Outsiders are not coming to those states for charity to the host state or to enrich the local people, but for their own good. People from other states must not be forced to pay high price for total anarchy and lack of development in states like Bihar and UP. Patriotism and democracy does not mean abandoning the right to protect local people, culture, language, and encouraging changing demography and worsening law and order and economy.
importance of other states in development of maharastraBy: amit | Monday , 3 Nov '08 20:22:18 PM Reply | Forward The fuel for generating electricity in Tarapore Nuclear reactor came from jaduguda mines of Jharkhand (India's only mine for Uranium). After Independence the government freight equalization allowed the development of Maharastra and South at the expense of Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, MP, West Bengal.Mineral resources from these states were sent from these states to south Maharastraand government subsidized all transportation cost taking away advantage of states haing these resources. During first 45 year of independence India didnot enough foreign currency to import them. These states got peanut price for resources which were taken and sent to other states. Maybe these states should stop government from sending them to maharastraThat would force industry to close their factories in pune Bombay and move themOrissa , Jharkhand , chattishgarh etc. Then we will see what Raj and his supporters can do for their narrow marathi manoos supporters.
