20 incidents of attacks on Indians in a month in Sydney

Melbourne: An Indian community leader has claimed that over 20 incidents of "curry bashing" have taken place in Sydney in the past 30 days, and said there is an urgent need to address the issue as most students are reluctant to lodge any complaint out of fear. Yadu Singh, the head of a committee that has   ....Read more

Please do not insult normal AustraliansBy: Michael | Sunday , 7 Jun '09 6:34:10 AM Reply | Forward We are not a racist country, and we are not a violent country. But there are always going to be a very small amount of low-life criminals who are both racist and violent. Its the same in almost every country. However in Australia, the government is able to do more to stop this crime spree, and peaceful proper lobbying is the only way to get them to do this. Calling Australians racist in general and making derogatory comments like 'inferiority complex' (here's looking at you Satindar) is NOT FAIR. It is a form of counter-racism and will do nothing to help the cause. Please acknowledge and respect the fact that the vast majority of Australians, especially the young people, do not hate people because of their race or culture and we are not a violent population.

Indian Students should be protected by the australian govt.By: jayabrata das | Monday , 1 Jun '09 20:20:10 PM Reply | Forward The govt. of australia is responsible to protect all the foreign students going there to study .after all, it is a huge part of GDP which is coming from the foreign students. And the govt. also can't indulge any racist activity in their country.

This is more a crime situation that anything elseBy: Observer | Sunday , 31 May '09 17:23:06 PM Reply | Forward I have lived and studied in Melbourne for the past 14 years. I was born in Singapore but now am an Australian citizen. From my observations these crimes that have been happening are definitely not racist although the media make it appear as such. These crimes are not limited to Indians. In Melbourne there as been a spike in violence involving all Australians. And the main problem is the law here. People have been saying we are too lenient with murders and robberies and such and its so true. Most of these crimes deserve harsh punishment but most offenders are out within several years. The crimes are committed mostly by teenagers and young adults. They use drugs and alcohol and have no direction in life so they cluster in gangs and take part in crime. I fear for this country when these people get older.
Curry bashingBy: Swapan Chakravarthy | Sunday , 31 May '09 9:27:06 AM Reply | Forward I am an Australian of Indian origin. I was at one time a professor at a university in Australia. My class in final years usually had 30% of local students and 70% of foreign students (not from India). Someone made a comment on this disparity. I explained that most local students drop off after the first year and it causes this imbalance. Besides most foreign students work hard for earning their grades resulting in their getting significant honours. This social imbalance is likely to get out of hand. Recently when many parents seek my advice on studying in Australia, I suggest that they do not waste their money: for the standard of education in Australia if far poorer than India. Besides, many of the students from India stay back and become taxi drivers rather than finding their career. Several reasons are possible. But I guess we need to understand where our own interests lie.Parents should re-think seriously about it.
REQUEST TO THE INDIAN GOVBy: Shyam | Sunday , 31 May '09 8:49:37 AM Reply | Forward i request the gov of India to make INDIA a better place to live with all amanties, better job opportunities and abolish cast system and heavy punishment for people who use religion to slaughter mankind. I'm ashamed that India a land with talent-doctors, engineers, researchers is still a developing country and countries like US, UK with 50% Indain workforce look down upon us. The first thing the gov. needs to do is control the population. Provide basic education and health services. spend less on election and hang all corrupt Politician as they are not Indians. Many students who come to foreign country end up doing work like- kitchenhand, carwash, cleaning, etc... which gives a bad reputation to Indians. The developed countries see Indians as low workers and not as managers in a big Firm. The gov should make a committee to follow up the activities of an indian student overseas and make sure he does not degrade the INDIAN reputation. Request all Indian to have selfrespect.JAI HIND
curry bashingBy: Aron Mark | Sunday , 31 May '09 8:04:35 AM Reply | Forward simple reson why indianas are considered not worthy abroad. you dont have anything to be proud of back home, infrastructure, slums, poverty of more than 60% of indians even today earning less than a dollar and a huge population without fixing all this. If you have a good home rich home, industrial home then you dont necessarily have to go overseas.
Attacks on IndiansBy: Pranesh | Sunday , 31 May '09 7:21:17 AM Reply | Forward Stand up, arm yourself and fight. Give them as good as they give you; verbally, physically and intellectually. Buy houses, businesses and move into every sector of the economy. No guesses for who will be at the bottom then. It will happen but it will take time.
Shame ShameBy: Kushal | Sunday , 31 May '09 5:07:16 AM Reply | Forward Is the Australian government still not ashamed of the racial attacks on Indian students? Probably they will never be because it is the true expression of Australian rascism like their policy of "Australia only for the whites". It would take centuries for them to catch up with the civilised world. They must know that globalisation can not have a different meaning that benefits only them. They are trying to be the weak.
