35 pc power from n-plants by 2050: Kakodkar

Kota, October 14:: With the signing of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal, the country will achieve 35 per cent electricity generation from nuclear power plants by 2050, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar has said. The nuclear deal has opened the doors of opportunity for India to set up nuclear power pla  ....Read more

shortage of staff will hit any nuke programmeBy: n.krishna | Friday , 17 Oct '08 9:38:00 AM Reply | Forward 17 nuclear power plants rated at 4120 MWe total, is in operation at present but produces about half its capacity. The nuclear power is just 3% of total power production in INDIA. The Indo nuclear racket is just to trap India to NPT and CTBT regime by christian PRANB MUCKERJEE and two CIA agents MANMOHAN AND SONIA. The contribution of nuke power will never cross 3%. There is already a shortage of 15% staff in DAE. Good engineers rarely join nuclear field because of radiation exposure concerns and lower pay. The shortage of staff is so bad that DAE now employs lady shift engineers, a practice very detrimental to future generations. Girls are born with all ovam and any exposure to radiation can damage it and pass the genetic damage to the next generation. A thumb rule is not to marry anyone working in nuclear field. So in spite of Rs 128,00,000 crore waiting for expansion we may not see any increase in the 3% contribution from nuclear power.

existing N plants suffering from lack of fuelBy: Dr.Jagannathan Kanniah | Wednesday , 15 Oct '08 8:36:51 AM Reply | Forward Question is; now that the way is clear to import fuel, when we can import the nuclear fuel needed and operate the existing nuclear power stations to their full capacity. There is no use of talking about far a way future like 50 years from now.
Nuke power will be costlier and GOI will end up subsidising US firmsBy: n.krishna | Wednesday , 15 Oct '08 7:21:57 AM Reply | Forward As per US Nuclear Regulatory Commission rules a nuclear plant builder should have a damage insurance guaranteed by the U.S. government. In our case GOI have to give a similar guarantee if the plant were to be built in India so that if a Chernobyl happens, the US industry or the Indian company that built will not be liable for any damages, and an unsuspecting incompetent INSURANCE company like AIG will pay the compensation. This insurance would make the tariff from a nuclear power plant built by a U.S. company in India costlier besides subsidizing the U.S. firm’s investment in India. Because of this provision, no new nuclear plant has come up in USA for the last 30 years after the Three Mile Island accident. With TERRORISM IN INDIA BY CHRISTIAN AND MUSLIM MILITANTS IN FULL SWING A CHERNOBYL IS WAITING TO HAPPEN ANY TIME NOW. AND IF TWO SUICIDE BOMBERS ATTACK ANY NUCLEAR INSTALLATION, ALL THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO IS TO EVACUATE PLACES LIKE BOMBAY WHICH HAS HALF A DOZEN NUKE PLANTS.

THE NO OF NUKE COMPONET SUPPLIERS, CERTIFICATION FIRMS HAVE SHRUNK AFTER 30 YEARS OF NO REACTOR CONSTRUCTIONBy: n.krishna | Wednesday , 15 Oct '08 7:16:55 AM Reply | Forward NPCIL is the only govt unit that can install nuclear power plant in India. Uranium is not the only issue, but the component suppliers including the reactor vessel worldwide is very acute. Japan Steel Works is the only supplier of reactor pressure vessels except Russia and its capacity is just five vessels per year and it cannot meet India’s demand. JSW order book is full till 2016 and buyers have to pay a premium of $100 million for booking a new vessel. There are only 80 nuke plant component suppliers and 200 certifications companies whereas thirty years back these figures were 400 and 900 respectively. The annual nuke plant constructions in the world is less than 4. Indian demand cannot spur production, as US or Europe are not going for nuke power plants anymore. Plant construction around the world is less than four a year. Indian firms cannot invest the huge sums for nuclear component fabrication as certification to IAEA standards have become mandatory with the nuke agreement.

Kakkodkar has no redibilityBy: n.krishna | Wednesday , 15 Oct '08 7:12:47 AM Reply | Forward The first Atom bomb model was of PK Iyengar and Anil Kakkodkar and it was a failure. Dr Ramanna thurndered that the head will roll in DAE. Ramann’s head would have rolled first if Indira Gandhi took any action. Kakkodkar is an Engineer and Engineers are not made Director of BARC as it is a post meant for a pure science Scientist. Then there was the failure of the CIRUS reactor vessel fabrication. CIRUS reactor is an important unit in our nuke programme and to enhance the life of the reactor the reactor vessel had to be replaced. For its fabrication 3.5 inch thick special Al plates were procured from abroad at a time when India had hardly and foreign exchange. But its fabrication was a failure and consequently we have to shut down the rector in the near future. The Dhruva Reactor coolant channel design by Kakkodkar was also a failure that resulted in the delay of its commissioning. The list goes on. Siva Sena connection and US link gave him 3 unusual extensions after retirement.
