35 pc power from n-plants by 2050: Kakodkar

Kota, October 14:: With the signing of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal, the country will achieve 35 per cent electricity generation from nuclear power plants by 2050, Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar has said. The nuclear deal has opened the doors of opportunity for India to set up nuclear power pla  ....Read more

0-35% in 40 years is simply awesomeBy: Anthony Joseph | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 17:06:08 PM Reply | Forward I think most people have not done the maths right. As per Mr. Anil Kakodkar In 40 years time we will 35% power generated by nuclear plants. Now that is a huge step forward under any circumstances. Do we have any idea what would be our energy needs in the next 40 years, I am sure its phenomenal. 35% of that amount means that nuclear energy would be the fastest growing sector in the Indian economy. 0-35 in 40 years is no mean achievement by any standard. Trust our PM to have negotiated a good deal in the best interests of the country.
Nuclear PowerBy: Suresh Mathew | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 15:55:18 PM Reply | Forward After indepedence people like Romesh Sharma was thinking for 60years and India didn't move an inch forward instead it had moved backwards due to the narrow minded thinking of people like him. Even today also after signing the nuclaer deal also people like him trying the Mud Slinging at the deal like what he had written in his below clippings. Instaed of preaching your oudated sermons try to read and understand the writting on the walls otherwise the world will dump you and your thoughts very soon.
Deal - not making much senseBy: Antina | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 15:38:10 PM Reply | Forward Reading this news that after 40 years India will produce 35 % of its energy from Nuclear sources - ( As also there is no guaranty that it will be 35 %) I do not find much reasons to appreciate this deal. Also during this 40 years money from India will go to US in the name of bringing new technology. Is it the need of the moment ? are the Govt. ignoring the basic needs of the people which is still not met for a large section of people. May be we should ask what is the priority ? And also I guess India has enough good brains -if Govt. has put the same amount of money in the nuclear research India - then Indian scientists could have developed same technology within next 20 years. Now its up to you to judge the situation.
Nuclear ExpersBy: AN | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 14:25:58 PM Reply | Forward Everybody in India likes to give gyan and is an expert in everything. Let's leave issues like these to the experts who like us, have the interest of the Country in mind.
Nuclear PowerBy: Suresh Mathew | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 13:44:40 PM Reply | Forward What else Mr. SA. Krishnan and Romesh Sharma wants, they want Nuclear energy to be produced tommorrow. Nobody can help them in thier childish thinking, may god only help them
Moral difficulties---By: romesh.sharma | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 14:02:50 PM Reply | Forward As per your Id,name, there is no doubt people like you are of more west-oriented mind.Thought and way of life is more concerned to the other part of the world and not India.Looking for immidiate benefits irrespective of what happens to the nation and its pride.I am not radical or have something against people of other faiths but it is bitter but truth. What you call childish thinking is the reason through which the other nations have progressed. That is being self-reliant through research are maximum use of resources available in own country.Grow-up and be realistic.
Atleast we have a solution in sight instead of cribbers with no solutionsBy: Sujeet Ramanna | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 14:34:56 PM Reply | Forward First of all, Romesh dont try to brand Suresh Mathew, because of belonging to other faith than ours as not favoring india and hence being western oriented. A very discrete racist undertone is what your language looks like. Maybe you are a supporter of BJP, who is still sore about not being able to stop the deal that has been largely been hailed as one of the greatest achievements of contemporary India both locally and indians abroad. Dont act like a sore loser. It shouldnt matter if BJP couldnt pull this one off themselves. Its in the national interest and you should be happy for India. But then the BJP is not known for such gestures. For a party that is ready to shove the 'patriotism' down everyone's throat, it falls distantly short of doing the same in practicality. It vehemently opposed the nuclear deal, that everyone knew was in india's interest.
NUKE CONSTRIBUTION WILL NEVER EXCEED 3%By: n.krishna | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 13:33:30 PM Reply | Forward With this pygmy Kakkodkar, who was given 3 extensions on political grounds is a traitor who sold our DAE to USA. US has not constructed a single new nuclear power plant for the last 30 years after the Three Mile Island accident. INDIA WILL NEVER CROSS 3% power from nuclear plants. Our FBTR programme will eventually wind up after accidents as these are inherently unsafe. We are going to add our Chernobyl either in Trombay, Tarapur, Rajastan or in Kalppakkam very soon as we are not getting good engineers for the nuke industry.
Nuclear PowerBy: S.A. Krishnan | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 12:15:56 PM Reply | Forward This is a meaningless statement from Mr Kakodkar except as an effort to justify the nuclear deal which many in India consider wrong and harmful. Even the PM has indicated that nuclear energy would be under ten percent of the aggregate. Mathematically 35% is possible in 40 years but such is the advancement in science that new sources may indeed be invented; and for all you know, the developed world might even dump nuclear energy! People in position must be careful in what they say.
Too long a period-----By: romesh.sharma | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 12:05:33 PM Reply | Forward What a pity that the Nation has to wait another half a century that too to achieve only 35% electricity after having so propagated deal! For the very initial establish ment of nuclear power plants and needed infrastructure India will have to spend more than 50 billion dollars. After elapse of around two decades there will be only 10 to 15% of energy increase while during that period the demand will jump to atleast 20%.How can India cop with fast growing demand with this so promised/sought after deal?If India had to wait so long it could have developed the technology of Thorium use.India has plenty of it and technology is very much available in developed countries and is not banned by any law.Based on Thorium technology India could save money, free itself from dependency and be proud of its scienctists. To get that status of developed/developing nation it would have better for India to take own initiatives. Moreover as Kakodkar says by2050 ,Iam sure it may take another century.
All talkBy: Sandeep | Tuesday , 14 Oct '08 15:23:50 PM Reply | Forward Sir, Why don't you develop Thorium based reactor's that can generate power, instead of giving math. We have heard many only talk, nobody delivers.
