Day before stimulus, petrol cut Rs 5, diesel Rs 2, LPG unchanged

New Delhi: Frittering away an opportunity to remove pricing of auto fuels from its controls, the UPA government today opted for a cut of Rs 5 per litre in petrol price and Rs 2 per litre in diesel, effective from midnight tonight. Why Prices Should Not be CutBy: Long Term Indian | Friday , 5 Dec '08 13:50:40 PM Reply | Forward There should have been no decrease in the prices - till the government bonds issues have been fully redeemed to reflect the losses incurred when oil price was high and petrol price was not high enough. This is grave injustice to future generations. This is exactly the type of short term optimization which we fall prey to - which prevents long term good for this country. In addition - anyone asking for LPG price cut is out of their mind. 90% LPG consuming household in this country have cable TV connection. I cannot believe that - they dont mind paying Rs 350 for cable tv, but not the fair price for cooking fuel.
petrol dieselBy: bala | Friday , 5 Dec '08 13:18:58 PM Reply | Forward Atleat now they have taken the decision about the petrol and diesel price.
price descreaseBy: sanjay | Friday , 5 Dec '08 13:15:21 PM Reply | Forward I appreciate the price reducing of petrol and diesel, people expect more decrease on petrol can be possible , but it not justifiable as Govt. already lossing in kerosene and LPG cylinder
Vivek By: vivek | Friday , 5 Dec '08 12:57:43 PM Reply | Forward ther should be more decreses in diesil prices as this may lead to decreses in general products which is used by commom citizens

Cut in Petrol PricesBy: Sanjay Buch | Friday , 5 Dec '08 11:49:37 AM Reply | Forward The quantum of cut should be in proportion with decrease. It is should not be use as tools to hide govt. in efficiency to take the steps against terror and combat terrorism in the country
Cut in Petrol PriceBy: Sanjay Buch | Friday , 5 Dec '08 11:43:05 AM Reply | Forward It is well come and much needed step. But this should not be attempt to dilute the people's anger for fight against terror
Petrol cost to reduce.By: K.K. GHOSH | Friday , 5 Dec '08 11:14:40 AM Reply | Forward Reducing Rs 5=00 per litre in the cost of PETRO is NOT sufficient. Let not the Govt. of India feel itself good to make People of India NOT to feel good.
price of petroleum productsBy: p c kar | Friday , 5 Dec '08 11:40:20 AM Reply | Forward When international prices of crude has gone down considerably during the past few months, our government was taking any action to reduce the prices. Even when the prices reached as high as 147-150 USD per barrel, the prices were raised to a very high level. While oil companies may not get the benefit of the price increase, as most part of the increase is in the form of Govt taxes and levies, the common man in the country suffers all the time. Now that crude price has reached almost 43-44 USD per barrel and India also produces 30-32% of its total requirement indigeneously, it is high time that petrol prices are brought down atleast by Rs.10 and diesel price by Rs.3-4 per litre. Will the PM, who is holding the charge of Finance Ministry, rise to the occasion and provide relief to the citizens.
It should be reduced to alteast 20 RsBy: Ravi | Friday , 5 Dec '08 15:17:35 PM Reply | Forward Oil prices become 1/3 of its peak prices.[147$ to 45$ ]Our govt raised the prices very quickly but in lowering they think of another opportunity to take money from suffering peoples. In these high prices time govt should atleast lowere it to 15Rs to 20 RS. so that some inflation could be controled.
Do you know what you talk?By: Sandeep | Friday , 5 Dec '08 23:27:14 PM Reply | Forward "Raised very quickly?"Govt did not raise the prices very quickly. You are completely unaware of what happened.Price of petrol was pegged at $67/barrel of oil. Govt only increased it a little bit when if actual parity between oil/petrol was there, price would have doubled or tripled when oil went from $50 to $147.Also, there are huge subsidies for LPG/kerosene so there is not much scope. Ideally, govt should have waited till oil losses(oil bonds) are recovered but I think some relief is a good idea.
