Ex-SIMI activist opens fire at police, Hyderabad on alert

There was panic in Hyderabad after a former SIMI activist Waqar Ahmed, an accused in the Mecca Masjid blast case, opened fire on a police team at Santhoshnagar Cross Roads today afternoon. Waqar Ahmed has been absconding and police said they received a tip-off that he was moving around in the s  ....Read more

SIMIBy: G. Gidwani | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 20:14:18 PM Reply | Forward So, they had him "surrounded" but he shot a cop and then got away. Sounds like a familiar story. At the train station in Mumbai the cops, armed with rifles, were hiding like cowards while the terrorists shot our citizens with impunity. One of theses days I would like to read that the Indian police actually captured a terrorist instead of running away like cowards.
COWARDS???!!!By: NK | Thursday , 4 Dec '08 10:32:42 AM Reply | Forward This is in response to the comments here which say the Mumbai policmen were cowards as they hid when the terrorists were shooting. I would want to take strong objection against such derogatory remarks. How easy it is to sit here in front of our computers and certify who's brave and who's not? Do you know the configuration of the weapons that the policeman were carrying? Does it stand any way near to those held by the terrorists? Do you know that the maximum of the policemen who died during this incident were unarmed? Just shut up if you do not have guts to stand barehanded in the way of the armed fugitives.
Very incorrectBy: rishi | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 21:59:39 PM Reply | Forward Mr. Gidwani. Please see the video available of policemen facing terrorists in CST station. They had ww-2 vintage weapons against sophisticated weapons that militants had. Even then, they held the fort. Tried to contain terrorists as much as they could. Ditto with policemen who went inside Taj hotel before NSG arrived. With vintage weapons firing 1-2 shots per round, they braved against those terrorists. Please check your facts before levelling these baseless charges. Indian police might be inefficient on a regular day, but did prove their bravery in mumbai when it was needed.
Hyderabad firingBy: Nishith Sharma | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 20:03:11 PM Reply | Forward We are shocked after each incidence and then there is another that again shocks us. After Mumbai shock, now it is Hyderabad. Time we stop the modern Neros from playing strings and do the work that they promise us while asking for our Votes. Else, it is time to DUMP THE GARBAGE.
SIMI, friend of pseudo-secularistsBy: ramesh kumar | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 19:40:59 PM Reply | Forward Dont chase the SIMI activists, they are the friends of Mulayam Yadav, Amar Singh, Lallo Prasad Yadav, Ram vilas Paswan, all of whom are counting on their vote bank! What a country? First we have to arrest these politicians who always argued for the SIMI activities and protected them.

SIMI activistBy: P K Agrawal | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 18:18:38 PM Reply | Forward Another bothed up act by the police. Just because one of their comrade was hit, the police managed to allow the SIMI activist run away. Is it an act of cowardice , negligence or simply inefficiency? Can the citizens of India feel better when police fails at every step of the way?
violence and vulgarity of policemenBy: Gauri Ghatnekar | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 18:18:19 PM Reply | Forward dear ie, i wonder if police are now being attacked far more... everyday we hear of the death of officers like mr karkare, ashok kamte and others, who die by the motivated mujahideen. some officers are beaten by the public venting their anger on them. they are beaten because they pick up people for breaking the law and the like. i even wonder if they are properly dressed. i recently saw a constable wearing kolhapuri chappals. god forbid they are chasing someone and there is alive wire, they would be shocked on the job...as electricity travels fastest through these footwear. ideally they shoudl wear rubber chappals so that they are safe even if overhead wires break, or they accidentally step ona wet live wire. i firmly feel that superiors should look into increased violence on the police force dress them appropriately for duty and look after them if they receive burns or wounds while on duty. they require good nurses to look after them and inject them with proper medicines.
Poor PoliceBy: D.S>Murty | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 17:36:49 PM Reply | Forward Ex-SIMI activist opening fire on Police chasing him and fleeing is an example how ill equipped are our police with rusted guns and wearing chappal. How can they face SIMI?
