US not ready to support Indian for UNSC permanent seatBy: Vishal | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 22:33:56 PM Reply | Forward I feel that the relevance of UN is anyways diminishing given unilateralism by the West and even Russia now. Look at Iraq and Afghanistan where there is no UN policing but only the so-called coalition of the willing and NATO dadagiri respectively. Russia attacking Georgia is another example of this unilateralism. India should seek an umbrella of countries willing to help it and vice versa. A good example could be forming a block with Japan and South east asian states and maybe throw in Russia if others are alright. Every country works towards its self interest and India is not and should not be oblivious to that fact
Why does India need it?By: PA | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 22:25:52 PM Reply | Forward In all fairness, I do not know why India needs this. We have enough things to fight for at home. Getting our act together is more important than something like this. Better security, economy and maturity will bring us more internally and externally than a stupid SC seat.
ImportantBy: AP | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 22:06:40 PM Reply | Forward IE has given important news. Other nespapers are as usual not rasing a wink.
Drop the dead DonkeyBy: Kieron | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 22:02:16 PM Reply | Forward @Joe - If I remember correctly, China got a permanent seat at UNSC, when its per capita income was equivalent to that of India. Perhaps because it threatened not to join otherwise. Maybe India should threaten to leave the UN altogether unless it gets the seat that it deserves because it represents a fifth of world's humanity!
US backing for a seat at UNSCBy: RJ Khurana | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 22:02:06 PM Reply | Forward It is a classic case of might being right. For the US, its national interests are paramount. At the moment, it needs Pakistan more than India in its war against al Qaeda (notwithstanding the fact that Pakistan has been taking it for a ride) and so it will go to any extent to keep Pakistan in its good books. And, Pakistan will go to any length to deny India its legitimate place at the UNSC. Moreover, China, another rising power, and an enemy of India is averse to favouring India on the issue. In brief, it is the US-Pak-China nexus that is working against India's claim. It is a pity that a country of India's size and population is being denied a permanent seat at the UNSC. The world respects power-political, economic and military. India will have to build this power to occupy its rightful place at the UNSC.
security council - By: joel | 09-Jul-2009By: Rohit | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 21:49:22 PM Reply | Forward Agree with Joel's comment below completely. India has so many domestic problems. We cannot show proper leadership in governing ourselves and solving our problems, I don't see how we can make a case for UNSC seat, without mature leadership and lack of military strength. We buy used
permanent seat in unscBy: kunal prashant | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 20:55:57 PM Reply | Forward dear sir,it shows the biggest failure of indian foreign policy of this govt.that they havenot succeed in getting explicite and unqualified assurence of support for permanent membership in unsc.despite of the govt.'s complete surrender nd blind followup of American policies,we were never considered for this seat, by any american govt. But they continued to support pakistan, sometime in the name of fighting communism, and for fighting terorrism.the terorrism is in itself a byproduct of american policies.perhaps Americans are fearful of india an economic as well asmilitary and geo-political superpower.so,they don/t want next powercentre in south asia, butthey are much interested in using india as a pawn to check and mate china.so they can enjoy the status of only superpower in current world scinerio. in my opinion,in present situation we need a more poweful position in w.t.o. with respect to uno, which role in realpolitik is more simbolic than significant.
indian are undeserving.By: alfred | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 20:55:13 PM Reply | Forward i disagree with manoj! What hilary said is correct. u cannot visit a gas station coffee shop, dunkin donuts, subway in the us without being attended to by indians either owners or workers. The workers being all illegal. There are very few IT czars. The czars are all a figment of indian's imagination. The people who buy H1B visas for Rs 10 lacs providing fake degrees work in dollar stores, indian restaurants, grocery stores generally low paid jobs. dont be fooled by fake statistics about indians being the most highly qualified there. Im in USA for 7 years and nobody asked me my origin nor qualifiacations. How does the indian community accumulate the data they claim? Indians only boast of achievements. Just a few thousand are successful. In UK most live on benefits and work cash to avoid taxes. Indians abroad are a drain on that country's social system and their attitude rubs the natives the wrong way. Now they want to be in the security council when they cant secure their own border!
CorrectBy: Vikram | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 20:48:29 PM Reply | Forward Send all the army to Indo-Pak border. Why the hell India start bothering about Pak??? send all the armies, let it disrupt the bloody Pakis fighting with thier own brothers
why india denied seat at UNSCBy: vraman | Monday , 27 Jul '09 10:01:20 AM Reply | Forward India has not done the paperwork or spread its net work amongs the western world, why so importance given to Ms clinton wherever she goes india freely and meeting people and we should invite Obama to see himself about the most populas and democratic country ie.India being left out unrepresented in Security councel and even china or Russia or UK do not support our cause either.or are we strengtherning our economy to show the world we are next china in all respects. What our external ministry doing through all its embasies throguhout the globe?External MInsiter Krishna Rao going around the globe for what?whether PM/President not interested in getting INdia duly placed in one of the seats at Security council to have a say in the world affairs?Perhaps, NO BODY WILL offer in silver plate the place, we have to earn .
