Hayden repeats ‘India a third world country’

Melbourne, November 20: : Australia opener Matthew Hayden on Thursday stood by his comment about India being a ‘third world country’ but insisted he never meant to disrespect the nation or its citizens and said by 'third world' he meant a large section of the Indian population that are living below the poverty line. India the 1st countryBy: Chanakya | Friday , 21 Nov '08 10:22:00 AM Reply | Forward May it is right to redefine what 3rd country means ? In case of poverty I think all nations are having this problem in some measure or the other. There can be no conutry which can boast of all super rich population. After all we are all human beings and as long as exploit and exploited exists this class struggle goes on . May be Hayden is not fully aware of these truths.
reBy: vrisika | Friday , 21 Nov '08 10:43:09 AM Reply | Forward Yes i do agree with you There is lot of poverty in these western countries as the population growth is nil , it is managed by the charity organisations such as salvos in australia.
Hayden StatementBy: Avinash Baranwal | Friday , 21 Nov '08 10:06:49 AM Reply | Forward Well, Hayden is right with his statement.I do not understand if the fact is not a concern for we Indians, why the mere statement is a concern???
Misleading informationBy: Prof Popatlal | Friday , 21 Nov '08 9:40:55 AM Reply | Forward The map which is being referred to by the commentator below shows the First (blue), Second (red), and the Third World (green) countries during the Cold War (1946-90).READ THE YEARS CAREFULLY .
Is it okay to say, your mama is fat and ugly? Part 2By: Arya | Friday , 21 Nov '08 9:32:50 AM Reply | Forward Progress of nations, cultures and civilizations, we know is transient. It is not a snap shot of capabilities of people, as capabilities evolve. We might not be satisfied with progress India has made in last 60 years, for sure there are opportunities lost. But we know in our heart, we wish to restore the glory of our India against all divides and obstacles that plague us. Our generations will see the results of our actions today. We are a proud nation. Hayden does not know India, and his statements indicate lack of humility... it is a fact.
Hayden's RemarksBy: Abhijit | Friday , 21 Nov '08 9:10:41 AM Reply | Forward I agree with what my fellow Indian citizen Mr. Jay says. Yes, it does sound demeaning when somebody calls us a 3rd World country. But a harsh truth always hurts. By this I in no way applaud Haydens statement, but what he has said is true
reBy: kunal | Friday , 21 Nov '08 10:32:16 AM Reply | Forward And whether a foreigner salutes you back or abuses you or kicks you in the butt is a different thing. Will leave you to decide.
India is not a third worldBy: Kunal | Friday , 21 Nov '08 9:45:25 AM Reply | Forward I think some of you are being misled . Read wikipedia again carefully. Stop defaming your own country. We know some of you in India still salute a foreigner.Have dignity and self pride.
Third world country InidaBy: Henry Sequeira | Friday , 21 Nov '08 9:05:05 AM Reply | Forward Let us face it. Is it not true that 300 million of us live below the poverty line. Why should it hurt us when a foreigner says the truth and his admiration for those real indians. Stop the hypocracy and do something about those wonderful human being. Don't waste your time going after Hayden,
Is it okay to say, your mama is fat and ugly if indeed she is 250 lbs!By: Arya | Friday , 21 Nov '08 9:00:58 AM Reply | Forward India, a 61 year young democracy writing its destiny after independence. Sure there are imperfections but it is also one of the most progressive countries in recent history of mankind as evident in its growing political and economic clout. What has Australia accomplished in last 60 years? Plight of aborigines / discrimination - should we call Australia primitive? Politics has gone mad! Hayden's misadventure - making an irresponsible statement. Honor is not claimed it is bestowed by people for your actions. Hayden has been measured and found wanting in more ways. For those, whose glasses are half empty and who believe that we should recognize the imperfections of our society, fine. But first, we dont need a jackass who talks from his a** to preach us. We know what we are! Second, no one questioned what is India? Hayden's views at best are debatable. Folks commented on Hayden making such uncalled for statement. In that, they have not been found wanting. I call it, how I see it. Jai Hind
MR HAYDENBy: mk | Friday , 21 Nov '08 8:59:46 AM Reply | Forward What Hayden has said is absolutely correct. A third world or even poorly rated country. Thuogh we are one billion strong country, the way we live here is quite depressing. A country with a number of divisions in society; reservation; group/section-oriented policies , still boasts its constitution as providing equal rights to all. A country which was under foreigners' rule for hundreds of years, still elects a foreigner to its parliaments. A country lost a major part of it during partition, still encourages infiltration and consequent demographic changes for its further division. A country buffetted by number of terror attacks in recent past, still live shamelessly. A country where a number of institutions, meant for very survival of a nation, already plagued with pliable and second rate people need no better Adjectives than this.
Third HaydenBy: Mark Sharma | Friday , 21 Nov '08 8:17:26 AM Reply | Forward Third world or not, he needs a third umpire.
Hayden repeats ‘India a third world country’ By: Trideep | Friday , 21 Nov '08 7:51:04 AM Reply | Forward If that's what he thinks then he should NOT BE ALLOWED to pay in IPL. We don't want him in our 3rd world country.
