Our nightmare, our wake-up call

How does a democracy of billion-plus people respond when a few madmen tear the heart out of its financial capital and shatter its soul? The question has to be asked because it is only adversity of such staggering magnitude that shakes up slumbering, old civilizations to turn it into an opportun  ....Read more

Let us be united and fight against our politiciansBy: Jayasankar | Wednesday , 3 Dec '08 16:42:22 PM Reply | Forward Dear Mr. Prime minister I am a typical mouse from Mumbai. In the local train compartment which has capacity of 100 persons, I travel with 500 more mouse. Mouse at least squeak but we don't even do that. Today I heard your speech. In which you said 'NO BODY WOULD BE SPARED'. I would like to remind you that fourteen years has passed since serial bomb blast in Mumbai took place. Dawood was the main conspirator. Till today he is not caught. All our bolywood actors, our builders, our Gutka king meets him but your Government can not catch him. Reason is simple; all your ministers are hand in glove with him. If any attempt is made to catch him everybody will be exposed. Your statement 'NOBODY WOULD BE SPARED' is nothing but a cruel joke on this unfortunate people of India. Enough is enough. As such after seeing terrorist attack carried out by about a dozen young boys I realize that if same thing continues days are not away when terrorist will attack by air, d
artcles in Indian xperessBy: uday jadhav | Monday , 1 Dec '08 8:54:00 AM Reply | Forward Refer your articles "after patil" and when they come again . I really do not understand ,1. How one man's or even 4-5 is going to take us towards solution for monstrous problem faced by world?2.Accountability is not flawless principle ? Refutable heading .3.Doesn't it look more political than righteous ? May be compulsion of some sort .Other Article ,1.None of the reasons are nondisputable on core level of vocabulary . May be generally they are acceptable to certain extent .I could not read beyond . They looked worthless writings just to fill up the space .
Mumbai AttackBy: Bosco George | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 14:27:50 PM Reply | Forward Where is Raj Thaackery and his men who prentends to own Mumbai. Why we have to send the commands to save our people in the Hotels. Mr. Raj Thackery should lead this how they drive out the North Indians, we are they gone are they hiding some where. Media should now approach. You media people keep quite and take interview when not necessary. Please take of Raj Thakeray and his gang why did not go to fight the terrorist to save Mumbai. Last he was tell the top cop that he wants to show who owns Mumbai, Is he sleeping NOW ?
What has Mr. Raj Thakeray to say?By: DA | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 5:52:46 AM Reply | Forward Why havent we heard anything from Mr. Raj Thakeray? Where are your goons and thugs now Mr. Thackeray? Or do they only flex their muscles on only fellow Indians? Where are they now, in this time of National Crisis? You and your cronies are nothing more than spineless bullies. Suggestion to Indian Express: go and ask Mr. Thackeray why he has not helped during this time of crisis? Or is there more to come from him after this crisis has died down?
We will never learn!By: DA | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 5:42:33 AM Reply | Forward After 7 days, this gruesome incident will be forgotten. The media and the people will go back to their cricket and celebrity scandal news. What kind of country is this.... not learnt a single lesson from 1993 riots, the Bombay commuter blasts of 2007, Hyderabad and Jaipur blasts and so on? We deserve this! We truly do.... There is no training of police, no security and most importantly accountability for actions. The corrupt politicians in office will use this incident to win the next elections and sit and relax. Only a nuclear attack will awaken this nation and by then the loss will devastating. Shame on you all! We deserve better and if we don't get it, we will leave this country. People abroad today view India as no better than Pakistan. Shame on you. Shame on us!
mumbai massacreBy: mool Shekhawat | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 4:14:53 AM Reply | Forward It was the worst antiterrorism response by our government. It looked unorganized, ameturish and too slow. India has been a target of such terror plots at regular intervals without any coordinated policy from the central government. Perhaps each state government should adopt a policy and anto terrorism measures to protect its citizens.Dr. Manmohan singh's government should be ashamed of itself! If they had any honor, they would have resigned by now. The home minister should be sacked for incompetance. Indian people world-wide are united and are ashamed that our guests and jewish comminity was targeted.
Dont vote for DemocracyBy: Srini | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 3:02:04 AM Reply | Forward First and formost our consitution has to be changed so that PM is elected directly by the people and not by MP's (like in USA), this will give freedom and liberty for the PM to work on their agenda. Follow the good things about USA as how they manage their country instead of cring about the "capitalism" you can follow their law-management and not their ideology though. But who has the guts?. It is outrageous and shameless that Cong-BJP has already started the mud-sliding, when will they change?. If they dont change every after this carnage, then they are even not fit to be human beings, leave it alone leaders!!!. Best way to save democracy is not to vote for any political party in the coming election, just vote for either independents or a void vote.
We IndiansBy: Mark | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 1:38:04 AM Reply | Forward Terrorists had planned this operation very well. When commandoes counter striked they should have planned it well. They should have familiarised with every inch of the hotel before entering it. The first thing that any force is supposed to do before striking back is to study the war front. It looked like they went in with very little planning and knowledge of the place. Even NSG is accepting this.Less said about the politicians, better it is. The biggest joke was that some politician said that we do not have enough man power to provide security. This in a country of billion people! Where 300 million people are below poverty line and looking for any employment opportunity! Where every sundry MP and MLA is provided with a herd of security personnel which successfully disrupts the traffic where ever they go! have some shame before saying such things. If you are serious about not having man power to provide necessary security, PM should take initiative in doing away with his security.
We IndiansBy: Mark | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 1:30:39 AM Reply | Forward I was very glad that Indian reporters were taken of the BBC. They were very excited and wanted to do more than reporting. As against the later reporters who were more matured did excellent reporting. Media needs to grow up, systems need to grow up, government needs to grow up and most of all people need to grow up. People had gathered around these unfortuante site as if they were enjoying some movie shooting. People were getting killed and security forces were sacrificing their lives and we Indians were there enjoying this live drama. Shame on India. This incident has shown a very ugly face of India. And in next few days situation will go back to as if nothing has happened. of course till the next terror attack happens. Yes we have over billion people so life is cheap in India. It is very disturbing to see how well equiped the terrorist were compared to our elite commandos. We did not even have good bullet proof jackets or night vision goggles. We lacked in planning department also.
We IndiansBy: mark | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 1:22:36 AM Reply | Forward Dear Mr Editor, Have you woken up to the terror now? If so let us see the difference in your writings. It not Babri Masjid, it is not Gujarat it not not poverty and injustice towards muslims that is causing this. You have to accept the reality that it is the fanaticism that is shown by people belonging mostly to the one community. First you have to crush it and then address the root cause. The community that ruled India for over 500 years, if is at a disadvantage now, it is difinitely not majority communities fault. They have to look within themselves. Stop pampering and giving excuses. Stop blaming Pakistan. it is our problem and we need to take care of it. And that includes your news paper too, along with the rest of the media. The media has shown complete lack of responsibility over last few years. that shows that our media is not mature at all. You should see how India reporters were reporting on BBC in inital stages and how 'white' reports reported same situation fw hours later.
