POTA a failed law, says Rahul Gandhi

Jalandhar September 24:: With Opposition BJP targeting the UPA government for allegedly being soft on terrorism, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the country needed a tough anti-terror law but not a ‘failed’ statute like POTA. "There should be a strong law to deal with terror. A powerful law, not a failed law. PO  ....Read more

BJP as bad as CongressBy: Serena | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 14:00:38 PM Reply | Forward Rahul is absolutely right when he says that fighting terror requires political will. The existing laws of India are more than adequate but the law enforcement agencies must be permitted by their political masters [of all hues] to enforce the law strictly, fairly and without favour. Trials must also be disposed in a time bound manner within a fixed time frame and without entertaining dilatory tactics of the litigants. Similarly communal violence must be nipped in the bud very stringently, and not be allowed to foment and create breeding grounds for future terrorists. All the politicians are to blame for the current mess we are in. The BJP is not better than the present govt, in fact as Rahul rightly points out, the worst incidents took place during their rule.
POTA a failed law, says Rahul GandhiBy: D M VAISHNAV | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 13:57:07 PM Reply | Forward Yes he is right POTA has failed to prevent or reduce the terror activities when it was in force. It mainly used to take people from minority communities in custody in BJP ruled states. We indeed need a tough terror law which can only be used under monitoring of federal government.
if minorityBy: RAJ | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 16:03:48 PM Reply | Forward LOL ..IF THE TERORISTS ARE FROM MINOTRITY COMUNITY..THEN HOW CAN U ARREST PEOPLE FROM OTHER COMMUNITY ? TELL ME HOW MANY TERORISTS ARE THERE IN RECENT BLASTS FROM OTHER RELEGION ??//CAN U SING LOE OUT.
if minorityBy: d m vaishnav | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 16:50:50 PM Reply | Forward don't link the terror act with minorities only. The act of attack on churches, post godhra riots, anti sikh riots and so many other related acts on minorities by the majority community are alse a terror act. How many of them have been tried under terror law like TADA or POTA ? none.
Congress trades on corpses of citizens and Rahul is a mama's boy, a curse on IndiaBy: Rohit | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 13:54:31 PM Reply | Forward Please shut up..you are no expert on security. Yu also lack decency to think of people who lost lives in these blasts. Just sit pretty and protect Muslim terrorists for minority votes, you trade on dead peoples bones and flesh. Congress should get annohilated in these elections for lack of respect for security.
Rahul Gandhi sounds foolishBy: Sudhan | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 13:47:40 PM Reply | Forward If Congress had a problem with POTA, they should have enacted another law before scrapping it. It is wrong to say that POTA is a failed law simply because NDA conceived it. Such statements make Rahul Gandhi foolish while the youth of India look upto him for leadership. Whether it is POTA or any other law, the community most hit will be Muslims as they are the ones mostly involved in terrorist activities.
Brother Sudhan, live in reality. Don't oppose UPA just for grantedBy: real bharatiya | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 16:17:44 PM Reply | Forward To mr. sudhanbjp do not know even to oppose the Govt. advani told that after 11/9 there is no terror incident in USA. He(advani) poor does not know that USA is a rich country

clown prince is a liability for the kangressBy: birju | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 13:28:07 PM Reply | Forward What more can be expected from a dimwit IC 184 hijacking happened in 1999 December, years before POTO/POTA came into force And what logic...by the same, remove IPC for crimes still happen even after 150 years of it being in force Bah!
Irresponsible claimBy: Hindu | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 13:27:50 PM Reply | Forward The ruling Congress party’s claim that terrorism happens because of alienation of minorities, is an irresponsible proposition. First of all, it should realise that it has miserably failed in containing terrorism by preferring to follow a soft approach towards their dastardly acts, purely on the consideration of minority sentiments. Minorities are not alienated by anybody but only by their own wish to retain an identity to corner undue benefits in the name of secularism.
