Pay parity for armed forces a difficult task: Govt

New Delhi, November 23: : With the armed forces insisting on a pay hike, the government has said it is "very difficult" to maintain a balance in salaries of government servants doing varied jobs. "It is a very difficult exercise. Because it is not just a question of ensuring that people get better salaries. It is also   ....Read more

Lt Col in PB-4By: Rashmi | Monday , 24 Nov '08 10:23:50 AM Reply | Forward SirIt is very sad that Cabinet Secretary equalizes 'Lt Col' as beggers while calling them as "some CHAPS".His mind set surely indicates his contempt for majority Officer Cadre in Armed Forces.I am sure he his blind to fundamental realities of History of Nations where factors affecting MOTIVATION LEVEL of Military had direct bearing over very SURVIVAL of such Nations. You can not maltreat your 'killing edge' of the Armed Forces in high handed fashion. Same Government has given desired status to the other groups of Para Military Forces
Its AmazingBy: vivek | Monday , 24 Nov '08 6:29:41 AM Reply | Forward Why is it that the issue is looking difficult to the Govt because it is connected to the Armed forces. The out of turn increments or creation of additinal posts for the babus get through with phenomenal ease because they themselves push the files. The step motherly treatment to the Armed forces who are otherwise the last bastion of hope for everything else in this GREAT NATION, will initaite a rot in the system which is going to cost the nation dearly. Its so amazing that the media covers non issues relating to IAS and IPS but does not have any time/space for this issue relating to National Security.
Pay revisionBy: J.M.Manchanda | Monday , 24 Nov '08 6:26:51 AM Reply | Forward There is a widespread belief that the civil servants discriminate against other sections of employees. The teaching community had got even a worse deal than the armed force and it has had to take to streets and shout slogans at the time of every pay-revision. The govt. is sitting over the pay revision proposals despite categorical support from the UGC chairman and VC of Delhi that Readers have been given a bad deal. It is also curious that unlike other employees, the service conditions of college teachers are tinkered with at the time of all pay revisions and many of them got only one assured promotion in their life-time.
Armed Forces PayBy: jai Singh | Monday , 24 Nov '08 0:35:41 AM Reply | Forward In no country in the world are the pay structures of Armed Forces linked to civilian pay scales. This is because the Armed Forces of a nation have nothing in common with civil servants except at the highest administrative levels and these days quite frequently at lower levels when the civilian administration fails to do its job. It is a disgrace that government and its minions still doubt the patriotism and loyalty of India's soldiers like they did post independence and find all sorts of convenient excuses to give them lower pay.
ias vs armed forcesBy: rajkumar | Sunday , 23 Nov '08 19:04:21 PM Reply | Forward mr chanrasekhar, come out of the air conditioned office and face the brunt of the wind, chill and wilderness. by marely facing the enemy in the middle of nowhere and no one along with u to give u a pat on ur backside,i m sure u will pee in ur pants. stop becoming a bond sitting in south or north block office, the world outside the raisina hills is much difficult than u can ever imagine. and by the way u dont have to be proud of ur job , a sepoy in the armed forces is much more than capable of the work u do or u r suppose to do , leave aside officers. an officer of army navy or air force is much more valuable than the whole raisina hill. jai hind.
Pay parity for armed forces a difficult taskBy: SURESH V RAO | Sunday , 23 Nov '08 18:16:57 PM Reply | Forward Why should the Government face difficulty in pay scales to the Armed Forces ? Infact the Armed Forces should get more than the Bureaucrats and the IAS and IFS cadre. They are the ones who put their life on line for the sake of their motherland whereas the civilians sit in safe airconditioned and well appointed offices and let the country go to dogs
Pay parity for defence servicesBy: Mohan Premji | Sunday , 23 Nov '08 15:51:49 PM Reply | Forward The only obstacle for the government is its own mulish obstinacy to maintain the IAS at a level higher than others. I feel we are playing with fire and underestimating the feelings of defence personnel on this issue. There is even a rumour going around that the current investigation involving some defence officers is a part of this conspiracy against the defence personnel.
History will rememberBy: Roma | Tuesday , 25 Nov '08 20:50:31 PM Reply | Forward Last sixty years have been the longest period in last six hundred years that this nation has not been overrun by invaders... that is because we have today one of the finest, secular and most powerful army in the world...i do not know why we want to destroy this great institution???If India is one country today it is because of the Indian Army... you let the army go to dogs... the country will just break up ...An army that is not proud of its standing in its own society will never have the motivation to fight outsiders...and then the moot question ...What should it fight for... after all the countrymen themselves humilate it.When pride is lost all is lost. A proud army man will never be corrupt or petty... but a person routinely humilated loses all such values and is easy picking. This downgradation will in my opinion be a landmark in this nation's history. This Govt, Cab Secy and most others involved in this decision will see the downfall of this great institution and then this nation in their lifetimes ... but they must serve their parochial interests for now. I hope they live long enough to regret and rue their follies.
