Scientists re-enact 'Big Bang', prove rumours wrong

Scientists fired the first beam of protons around a 27.36-kilometre tunnel on Wednesday in science's next great step to understand the makeup of the universe. The Large Hadron Collider – built since 2003 at a cost of USD 3.8 billion – provides scientists with much greater power than ever befor  ....Read more

Must we truly know how the universe came about the important part is that we are here today.By: Jeremy Whittaker | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 4:52:27 AM Reply | Forward I feel alot better that they will go at this experiment from low energy and gradually go up I urge these guys not to take this experiment to far, these guys don't know what is really the worst that could happen besides it is not very necessary that we know how the universe came about, life goes on here on this planet, and i would like for it to continue this way. All the time you hear rumours that the sun is going to blow,we all know about 2000, I've even heard 2012 i would like to think that they really are right in saying billions of years til that happens. When you hear about a blackhole devouring the earth it kinda doesn't make you very scared about dying by the hands of a thug(lol)
Maya calendarBy: victor | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 5:38:46 AM Reply | Forward i have read in some articles that this whole experiment could be completed in about 4 years...The Maya calendar is said to end in year 2012...do the math!
Victor is only good for arithmeticBy: Borun Chowdhury | Monday , 15 Sep '08 8:04:15 AM Reply | Forward Victor I understand that you can do 8 4=12 but is that all you can do or can you understand Hawking's argument that black holes evaporate. Bloody rumor mongers
hadron colliderBy: sumone | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 0:51:57 AM Reply | Forward i think this is stupid they shouldent mess with things that they dont deffo no what is going to happen i was shitting my self on munday when i found out cz i really thought that i was going to die but after today i just think all this is stupid and now i think this is a very good test iv always wanted to no how this world was created and maby in the next year or so i will actually no for sure what made us pritty excitng if you ask me but scary cz we may die !! haha
i dont think soBy: sandra | Saturday , 13 Sep '08 7:46:58 AM Reply | Forward no i dont think so the world is going to end because of this experiment. but (there always is a 'BUT') i am worried about the affects it will have on the environment and people. maybe something will go wrong and we (humans) will suffere e.g. volcano's erupting, earth quakes, climate change etc. i.e. if something goes wrong. but even if nothing will go wrong, this will still affect humans, if the experiment proves big bang then some christians will believe in the big bang and become non-christians.or if this experiment won't proove anything non-christians migh become christians.and also alot of money will be wasted.but besides all this...i am with the people who want for this experiment to happen, because these years that us people right now are alive will become history i.e (i.e. means 'that is') if the world's not gonna end. =)ohh and i more thing without scientist.... well... i don't wanna imagine what the world will be like... =)
Hadron ColliderBy: Calvin Morrisseau | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 0:03:53 AM Reply | Forward I find it insane for anyone to think they can control the reaction of two forces no matter how small colliding at the speed of light.
Ru Roh!By: WTB1 | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 21:33:05 PM Reply | Forward This just in: "Parts of Geneva have slowly began sinking in what scientists insist is not related to the Large Hadron Collider experiment built under the French-Swiss border. Fleeing residence describe it as a sinkhole with a vortex center. Once an object is caught within a certain distance, it becomes elongated until it eventually stretches into a thin wisp of its former shape before disappearing into the hole. As it grows in size, more and more people are calling for Rosanne Bar and John Goodman to be flown in to cork the hole. A lesser amount of people are calling for Lindsey Lohan to be called in too. Not for her girth, as with Bar and Goodman, but rather because they are just sick of hearing about her." - WTB1 News Inc.
scientists reenact Big BangBy: kannan krishnaswamy | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 21:13:43 PM Reply | Forward within the gravitational field of Earth, such experiments can not have the conditions originally any BigBang could have: these experiments will give misleading results
The article is incorrectBy: Prakash | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 20:40:53 PM Reply | Forward This article is wrong. The main experiments are yet to start. The author does not understand the experiment involves the firing of 2 protons at over 14TeV to find the Higgs boson. This might create miniature black holes but they will go away immediately and will not be a threat.
This is all an unknownBy: Ron Fouche | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 2:23:49 AM Reply | Forward How can anyone predict what will happen when these particles collide at the speed they intend to send them. The united states is planning on going back to the mars in the not too distant future, why not build this thing up there and then try these experiments, then if something goes wrong it won't affect our planet.
CERNBy: Neetu Banga | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 20:24:02 PM Reply | Forward If India do this type of experiment, I am sure whole world raise so many question about global warming effects etc... Here no one raise question about its side effects .
LHCBy: Priya | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 21:23:59 PM Reply | Forward CERN has proved itself. There is a reason world's best mind gather there. And those who talk about side effects I wonder if they even know what particle physics is.
A New revolution By: Enoch James | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 20:18:29 PM Reply | Forward This is a very good way to determine if the Big Bang theory is real. But scientists have to careful as experiments like these can also prove a threat to the human race.
side effect of big bang reserchBy: Ranjeet Singh | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 20:00:42 PM Reply | Forward side efects of this reserch
you crazy people...By: Ram | Wednesday , 10 Sep '08 19:46:31 PM Reply | Forward All these discussions about big-bang, re-creating universe, god-particles, world is going to end, etc etc are just 'out-of-the-box' thoughts of crazy people... you silly humans...
STOPBy: Omar Reyes Perez | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 2:35:39 AM Reply | Forward i think we as humans should teave nature alone and stop messing with what we didn't creat
