The Kashmir Maharaja and his two advisers, one Hindu and one Muslim, decided to keep Kashmir independent of Hindu India or Muslim Pakistan, but the Pakistani attack in 1948 forced the Maharaja to sign the Instrument of accession of Kashmir to India. Later India became a secular democratic republic. Since Pak had a non-agression(standstill agreement) treaty with Kashmir in 1947, Pak was not supposed to touch Kashmir militarily as per international law. There was a rebellion in Poonch only in 1947 against the Hindu King Hari Singh Pakistani army infiltrated tribals followed by armymen to help the rebels. That is why India went to UN with complaint and UN resolution maintained that “Pak will withdraw all tribals and nationals from Kashmir’ after negotiating the modalities of withdrawal with India.

Obama has to grow up as President to understand the true position about Kashmir. Instead of thinking about Kashmir, Obama should do the sensible thing of focusing on the problems of his own country. Outside his country, he would do well to close the Iraq misadventure and exterminate the Pak based terrorists to give his country security. If he interferes in Kahmir, it is quite certain that he would not like to hear what India would say.

Had they been able to do it on their own they would have done it by now. International community and especially US needs to get inovolved if the world has to avoid a nuclear holocaust in that part of the world.
