We can’t say what India must do: Israel

New Delhi: As the air strikes against Hamas in Gaza entered its second week, Israel’s Ambassador to India Mark Sofer has made it clear that his country would continue the military operations till it had deprived the Hamas of its capability to launch rocket attacks into Israeli areas. “One thing is certain  ....Read more

Why India holds back? By: Dr. Prasad Mothadaka | Monday , 5 Jan '09 5:49:54 AM Reply | Forward In the aftermath of Mumbai attacks most of the countrymen (Indians), especially youth and the victims of terrorism are yearning for action from Indian government, often blame the politicians for lack of it, a decisive one. The expressions of 'enough is enough' are but natural. Most fortunate aspect of Indian democracy is that the chief executives so far are lot more matured than most of the leaders in other countries. They know the cost esculating tensions turning into a full scale war. This truth is known to Israel too. The casualities will never be limited to tens, hundreds or thousands. This is the reason that holds back a decision to take action like the Israel is taking now. However, those who are reading this as lack of capability/indecisiveness are gravely mistaking. Pakistan is running out of time. Not all times China and America will come for help. The so called times of 'proxy-war ' are over. Pakistan need to concentrate to improve economic situation too.
India By: Chandra K Shekar | Monday , 5 Jan '09 5:44:43 AM Reply | Forward i agree that the 2 situations are broadly similar between india and israel. There are also important differences most notably india's enemy has n- weapons. Also fortunately india's enemy is on a path to self destruction by nurturing jehadists who pose a greater risk to pak than india, and help pakistan's self destruction process both militarily and economically. Israel is much superior in terms of internal security measures aimed at preventing the kind of incidents that bombay had to experience. India needs to start improving internal security in a big way and get help from friends like Israel and not go to war. because of N Weapons our enemy has and may use. Also you don't need to punish an enemy who is doing a great job at self destruction. Long live india's friendship with Israel.
Is the situation similarBy: Rohan Bhosle | Monday , 5 Jan '09 12:54:19 PM Reply | Forward I agree the threats from neighbours are similar for both India and Israel but the fact that Pak is a nuclear state and fast on track of self destruction shud be more worrying for India. Perhaps India shud have a dual objective policy in allowing Pak to self destroy and prepare herself for having brutal, tribal, uncivilised, undemocratic Jehadi neighbourhood of the size of a nation - and mind you with the nuclear weapons. We need to carve a way out of this mess.
Israeli- Hamas conflictBy: john underwood | Monday , 5 Jan '09 4:26:39 AM Reply | Forward Sofer states 37,000 rockets fired at Israel since 2001 by Hamas. How many Israeli killed or injured, exactly? Let's compare ------ How many Palestinians have been killed or injured during same period of time??
Israel strikesBy: india_observer | Monday , 5 Jan '09 2:52:28 AM Reply | Forward We should learn from Israel on how to live in a difficult neighbourhood.Instead of lecturing the whole world on the motherly (read cowardly) approach, non-align movement and all the outdated non-sensical policy that we have in our arsenal, we should stand up a like a unified force and handle this. It does not mean war rather it means a set of collective strong-willed actions without playing politics with nation's security. We are behaving like a weak individual succumbing to stress in the environment. We have been repeatedly taking each and every attack lying down we should learn from this great country how to tackle terror. Stop bashing Israel and start colloborating and emulating them.Remember, everyone including your enemies appreciate if you are brave. They spit on you if you succumb and cry like a baby every time a attack happens. Never listen to leftist parties. They are the enemy within.
We can’t say what India must do: IsraelBy: Mak | Monday , 5 Jan '09 2:17:35 AM Reply | Forward Israel has the right to defend itself. When a nation is sorrounded by hostile extremists, it has all the rights to defend and be proactive in its defence of its land and citizens. Talk does not carry any weight for the terrorists.Only action, solid and lasting action, would bear the result. India should learn the lesson of pride and self reliance from Israel.
A fact often missed...By: Humane | Monday , 5 Jan '09 2:13:24 AM Reply | Forward A fact often missed is that the Israeli Defense Ministry stubbornly refused to employ or even test technological means to intercept the Kassam rockets fired from Gaza.To make a long story short, Israel refused to protect its attacked citizens with a C-RAM system based on the Phalanx canon or a laser canon. Both said to be tested successfully in Iraq for similar aims. There were serious public objections to this policy, even a semi-campaign led by the Haaretz newspaper to at least try one of these weapon systems but the MoD stood firm.
