A friend in deed

In showering praise on US President George W. Bush for his personal commitment to implement the civil nuclear initiative, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has drawn predictable flak from his opponents at home. Dr Singh’s warm farewell to Bush at White House last Thursday should, however, mark the   ....Read more

A friend in deed Indian Express editorialBy: suresh sheth | Monday , 29 Sep '08 18:40:11 PM Reply | Forward There is another reason also for likes of Howard Berman to drop his opposition that India Express misses. US knows very well that if next government is that of BJP, it will demand a rewrite of this n-deal, asking US to explicitly accept India as a ‘nuclear weapons state’. That will give India same rights as five Brahmins of nuclear club so far as enrichment and nuclear reprocessing as well as nuclear tests are concerned because India is denied those rights under the n-deal to be signed by Rice and Mukherjee. US knows all too well that next BJP Indian government will be obliged to follow the deal without the rights of five nuclear Brahmins and that is the reason why Bush has been successful to overcome opposition of Howard Berman.
What an edit?By: Syed Atique Hussain | Monday , 29 Sep '08 17:40:54 PM Reply | Forward Besides everything said about President Bush, what is this nuclear ayatollah? Some Indian writers/journalists love to create their own vocabulary without any etymological knowledge. This is not even Hinglish, it's simply foolish. The closest translation of Ayatollah is God's sign or symbol and to get a degree or title of ayatollah one has to study not less than 25-30 years and publish research papers and books. Please be careful in using words, that's what writing edits is all about, is not it?. Simply put, if a renowned bully, liar, nincompoop person is my friend, I would like be to distanced from him rather than shout from the rooftop that he is my friend and I love him!!!
Doctors's greatest victoryBy: G.Sriniwasan | Monday , 29 Sep '08 16:22:56 PM Reply | Forward If Mrs Gandhi was humbled by the Republicans in 1971,the same Republicans led by BUSH ensured that India and Dr.Manmohan are offered a high Coffeetable. That India has come a long way from a Poverty stricken thirdworld country to a confident and established Nuclear Power, thanks to the Political adroitness of the Doctor and the Commitment of Bush to give its rightful place in the comet of Nations. Now it is upto the YOUTH of India to SNATCH the BATON from Dr.Manmohan and lead India;s MARCH to great heights.Jai Hind
No matter what but Bush is Friend of india!!!!By: abdul parkar | Monday , 29 Sep '08 14:48:49 PM Reply | Forward No matter what happened in Iraq, But for indai BUSh did help. If he did not have used his powers India would not have even passed Through NSG. He used his complete power and influence. He also used his power to tame down the stuborn American senate to pass the 123 agreement. I think our PM did the right thing calling him the friend of india. Our PM atleast knows who is friend and who is not. The BJP and the left are curse to india till these two parties are not wiped out completely india will strugle to develop completely. And also we indians should change our attitude completly, we oppose every project, if we keep opposing everything how will good happen. We should oppose our energy against corruption and not againt good project. Never follow the misleading politician.
bush id great friendBy: reddy | Monday , 29 Sep '08 14:15:02 PM Reply | Forward Bush is a great friend of India. There is now 2 ways about it.I mean, to push the deal in midst of financial crisis unprecedented. Hats off to him.
The nuclear deal--- A crowning success By: (Dr.) B.N.Anand | Monday , 29 Sep '08 13:11:59 PM Reply | Forward You have righly endorsed the PM's sentiments with regard to the contribution of the US president in initiating the nuclear deal and guiding it through various stages which ended in US House two third majority vote and which will culminate soon with the US senate vote.I was in US when 123 agreement was being debated live on TV in US congress and Senate and also observed the extent of opposition the agreement faced from the law makers over there before it was ultimately approved . We have travelled a long way from the days of Richard Nixon when he would refer to our former PM and "Durga" of the country, Mrs Indira Gandhi, as the "old and wicked bitch" during Bangla desh war and to the present times when the US president is seeking guidance from our econimist PM the way to solve the current financial crisis prevailing in USA. This nuclear agreement would enable us to do nuclear business with the world and to push for better bargains in negotiating these deals in future.
a friend in deedBy: devindra | Monday , 29 Sep '08 12:04:13 PM Reply | Forward And how do you think you are going to achieve 'stabilisation' of Pakistan
Friendly actionsBy: S.K.GUPTA | Monday , 29 Sep '08 11:31:05 AM Reply | Forward Dear Sir,The passing of 123 Agreement in US House of Representatives with 298 vots in favour and 107 in opposition, in the midst of prevailing disturbing economic situation in USA, was not an easy task and full credit must go to US President Bush for making it possible. It was only due to his persistent efforts that India could manage the NSG approval earelier in Vienna. This has amply proved that Bush has the "power" and capabilities to honour his commitments and India certainly "needs" such friends "in deed". One only wishes that the entire Nuclear Civilian Deal with USA doesn't contain any hidden clauses which may create troubles later. As of now, Indian PM Manmohan Singh must also be praised for his bold and couragious stand amidst all sorts of political opposion at home front. If all goes well, India's power needs vis a vis its for the future should not be a problematic area. The National priorities should outweigh other considerations, a lesson to be learnt by all.
Bush ratings among IndiansBy: S.Dutt | Monday , 29 Sep '08 9:21:27 AM Reply | Forward your editorial reflects the reality as a sizeable no of Indians find this as defining moment . Messers Advani and Karats may not realise ,but when we face situations when even small nations like Malaysia dares to challenge ,one wishes the backing of strong India . The nuclear deal is one such moment which will bring India one step closer to its due place on world map .George Bush , single mindedly helped to achieve this feat and a grateful nation expresses its gratitude .Mr. Singh has in true indian and gandhian tradition expressed these sentiments . Problem with our friends of left and right is that they have nothing worthwhile to offer ,so better criticise , well done Mr Karat and friends . Your great lessions on negativism are very well undestood and put to practice by dear Mamta didi .Pl. do encourage this experiment so that Inia joins club of great countries like North Korea , Somalia etc .Allow Mr Advani to worship bricks ,with such leadrs who needs electricity .
President BushBy: C. Nandkishore | Monday , 29 Sep '08 4:23:35 AM Reply | Forward Yes. Bush is a friend. He should be given the Bharat Ratna.
