All resemblances are not coincidental

Violence has always mystified me. It seems utterly inventive and yet on reflection one sees patterns, connections that one didn’t see at first. Consider the politics of violence and how it unites Congress and BJP. At first sight, the idea seems a bit ludicrous. But consider two leaders as exemp  ....Read more

Nutjobs galoreBy: Manoj | Sunday , 22 Mar '09 9:40:16 AM Reply | Forward Comparing Narenda Modi to Sanjay Gandhi is about as factual as comparing Shiv Viswanathan to a toilet seat.
Ignorant HinduBy: Suren Patel | Saturday , 21 Mar '09 23:24:55 PM Reply | Forward you are a macaulay educated christianised Hindu writing in an English not understood by many. We have many of you like in the Uk who have accepted positions in the House of Lords whose acrobatic language is similar to yours. You probably are aware of one known as Bhikhu Parekh, a renowned Modi hater. Can you be transparent and disclose you income so we Hindus are aware where your funds originate from.

Witch Craft by VishavnathanBy: C Patel | Thursday , 19 Mar '09 19:28:19 PM Reply | Forward I do not trust any social scientist because they are sociologist and not scientist and I can vouch that you some of you people as academics do more harm then good. Your lectures should begood for students but as business person you would be dead as dodo inmost circumstances. As a politician you could not do a thing toimprove the mass any way. I looked into you work and realise this is another witch doctor, practising her mumbo jumbo to no end but feathering her own nest. Soyou can go and visit foreign country and twitter your bits to pleasewestern audience. There are so many of your tribe at world bank andwestern uni to gets money but discarding the country to do any usefulwork. How many job you have generated compare to a person running abusiness in India? Has he get any help from you to do his thingsbetter?I used to see people like you with doc degree from west,
nonsenseBy: Indian | Thursday , 19 Mar '09 13:10:11 PM Reply | Forward I am dissapointed at the quality of articles being published in IE these days. What kind of an article is this? Atleast stick to facts. What kind of concoction is being put together here. And who is the author to declare Modi or anyone as a perpetuator of anything - the supreme court of India? Please spare us the pain and disgust. Do not let this author write in your paper.
Who is a Fascist now?By: Abhinav | Thursday , 19 Mar '09 10:55:22 AM Reply | Forward It is expected from an "eminent" social scientist like Mr Visvanathan that he will be able to make intelligible differentia even on his fancyl flight of comparisons. Sanjay Gandhi and his mother were handed out a humiliating drubbing at the polls after his emergency excesses. By contrast, Modi was returned to power with majority intact, Mr Visvanathan's percieved "twinning" notwithstanding! Clearly, by ignoring different electoral trajectories of the two, it is our esteemed social scientist who has come out as a "fascist" as for him polls, performance etc are just not an issue! Not when one has to overstretch to make comparisons, not when one has to demean SEZ's. Wonder where in the world has technology been suffused with "history and politics". Mr Visvanathan grow up and smell the coffee!
All resemblances are not coincidentalBy: Sampath | Thursday , 19 Mar '09 10:11:08 AM Reply | Forward The author is desparately cluctching at straws here to make comparisons. Please stick to your day job of social science whatever that means. Henry Ford wanted a people's car for the US middle class and there was no violence associated with it. The chinese communists have built industries emptied of ethinicity and unionism and there is no Modi or sanjay sort of leader there. Mussolini a confirmed fascist did not build small cars. Please dont see patterns where none exist - all resemblances ARE coincidental.
