All set for a quiet launch of India's first indigenous N-sub

New Delhi: More than two decades after it was conceived, India’s first indigenously built nuclear submarine, for long called the Advanced Technology Vehicle project, is set for a quiet launch towards the end of this month. Christened INS Chakra after the Charlie class nuclear submarine taken on lease from  ....Read more

A Proud MomentBy: Giri Girishankar | Monday , 13 Jul '09 8:14:09 AM Reply | Forward This is indeed a national occasion for congratulations. Despite the duration the sub took to be completed and be made ready for launch, it is an accomplishment to be proud of. The nation can now look forward to successful trials for the submarine and commissioning. This occasion will inspire the shipyard workers, the designers, the technologists and the managers to double their efforts to accelerate the production of subsequent submarines. There is a lot to be learnt from a project of this nature and I am sure the shipyard would have done that. There is a temptation to compare India’s achievements with those of China. This is unfair, comparing the two economies and the resources, and a whole lot of other working conditions. It is also tempting to criticize the Indian Government but it reflects all the strengths and foibles of the people. The nation should be prepared to learn and proceed.

All set for a quiet launch of the indegenous N subBy: Vasoo Kamulkar | Friday , 10 Jul '09 23:19:16 PM Reply | Forward (10 July 2009 with apologies from Vasoo Kamulk: Some parts of my comments got deleted from the post. Here is the full version)To Thirumaleshwar, You should check your facts before twisting the Geography and History of the region. Normally, the English media is inimical towards the flight of the Maharashtrians but on this occasion, "SATYAM EVA JAYATE"!KARWAR and GOA are both parts and parcels of MAHARASHTRA. One of Shivaji’s forts is just three km away from Polem in Goa.The Marathi schools in Goa

Poor ReportingBy: Suny | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 12:29:21 PM Reply | Forward Re: Vasoo's comments- Can you be more pathetic ? This article shows poor geographical knowledge of the reporter, nothing more. That is enough to rejoice for poor souls like you. Karwar has, will and always remain part of Karnataka. If your logic holds good, Mumbai should be out of Maharastra, so should many of its border districts.
All set for a quiet launch of India's first indigenous N-subBy: P L Selva Mani | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 23:52:08 PM Reply | Forward Good Lads. There is an error in the Indian Government's numbers. The correct number is not 5 but 25 Nuclear Submarines MUST be built in the shortest possible time. In case they take too long then the Indian Government should negotiate with Russia for atleast a dozen Nerpa Class Nuclear Submarines. High time that India stands upto theChinese
All set for a quiet launch of India's first "indigenous sub"!By: T.Bose.(F/Lt.IAF.Retd.) | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 16:43:12 PM Reply | Forward I wholeheartedly agree with D.Bose.,re the "indigenous" bit!!In fact it is of Russian origin given an Indian "makeover"!! I think India should put as TOP PRIORITY,the building of subs,as China has an overwhelming superiority in subs.,
reply to Vasoo KamulkarBy: man from karwar | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 15:29:36 PM Reply | Forward I reside in Karwar myself and am an ethnic Marathi who wishes that Karwar should be merged into Maharashtra. But as of today Karwar is a part of the Indian federal state of Karnataka.Of course there are Marathi schools in Karwar and Sadashivgad but these schools are allowed to be run lawfully by the Karnataka authorities under the rules for schools run by linguistic minorities. The boundary dispute itself should be solved eventually leading to Karwar's merger with M'tra but that is in the future. As of today you are wrong.

INDIA'S SUBSBy: R. Mathew | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 14:25:17 PM Reply | Forward Better late than never. Although Indian venture to indigenise her requiements, the time taken for realization has weakened the aramed forces. Curruption and lack of vision to build up the armed forces have have cost India a lot. India's Pakistan centric defence hitherto, has allowed China to expand and double her forces creating a gap so wide, that India needs many more years with vigorous action to balance the power. As a first step, there are unpatriotic elements working against India's interest and need to be identified and rooted out. A hitherto weak India is unble to protct her own citizens mauled by a foreign force and not to mention the debacle of the foreign policy. India must focuss on each of her adveseries around her and create specific forces to deploy during a crisis. If China has 2 nuclear subs, India must have at least 4. India must work towards this propotion if at all she wishes to extend her influence globally.
