As NSG chief led Taj ops, terrorists inside killed his relativeBy: Ahmed Sartaj | Saturday , 13 Dec '08 17:38:20 PM Reply | Forward N Ganesh ji, u need to learn more about NSG, the NSG boss (99.99% an IPS officer is always busy fulfiling his political masters (read Home Minister as also the Minister of Home), he can not and will never involve in direct operations where the life is in danger. For this, the Army is always ready to sacrifice en-number of lives. Please learn background of all things before reporting on such things. His relative died in the operation is very sad thing, had he been personally directing the operation, he would have instructed his commandoes to resuce the relative first then the other people.
DG NSG and SAGBy: Bharti | Friday , 12 Dec '08 18:06:08 PM Reply | Forward But that is fact. The operation was being conducted by Commander 51 SAG an Army officer.DG NSG was busy with TV reporter.Remember a commando reply to a tv report " we just did our job" That is what Indian Army is all about.
NSG ChiefBy: Arnold | Friday , 12 Dec '08 13:31:52 PM Reply | Forward Can't believe it that NSG Chief wasn't guiding the operations.Though Jyoti Kishan Dutta is an IPS Officer but that doesn't mean that he won't be guiding the forces under him. That would mean that Special Action Group (SAG) can be better directed by Army Officers since it draws its personnel from Army only while Special Rangers Group (SRG) may be directed by an IPS since it draws personnel from CRRF, ITBP, RAF, BSF. In my opinion all were coordinating since many forces were involved in different levels of operations.

NSG ChiefBy: V K Das | Friday , 12 Dec '08 11:36:05 AM Reply | Forward It is ridiculous to say that the NSG chief was directing the commando operations. He is not a commando. The commandos were all army personnel on deputation to NSG and they have their own set up headed by their own officers who form what is called the Special Action Group. No police officer can ever command army personnel. The personnel come on deputation and revert back to their parent regiments after being relieved by a fresh batch from the Army.
NSG ChiefBy: Mander | Friday , 12 Dec '08 12:53:48 PM Reply | Forward Well said Das.Sad to know that Mr Saraswat lost his life, but one can't understand what this article is trying to convey. The article is sheer wastage of newspaper's space. Now coming to Mr VK Das's opinion. He is right. Dutt never commanded the force. He is an IPS officer, a civilian, who created mess of the whole affair. Under Dutt's so called command, it took 9 hours for the deployment of NSG at Mumbai.Army personnel come on deputation and then go away. NSG should be controled by an Army General. It is unthinkable Government could be so stupid as to handover charge of such an important combat force to a civilian.
