Attack on churches: Karnataka to invoke Goonda Act

Bangalore, September 22: : Facing flak for ‘failure’ to rein in those who vandalized churches in parts of the state, the BJP government in Karnataka on Monday decided to invoke the stringent Goonda Act against the culprits. The decision, adopted at an emergent meeting of the state cabinet, comes after a week-long unrest  ....Read more

Attack on Churches to stopBy: Jamsheed Basha | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 9:37:43 AM Reply | Forward CM Yeddyurappa must act fact to calm down the tempers and restore law and order in the state. Take action against the perpetrators of the crime to instill confidence in the minds of the minorities.
Please respect Hindus sentiments and stop forced conversionsBy: Hindu | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 8:18:40 AM Reply | Forward The violence against Christians in Karnataka is a reaction to the aggressive propaganda and mindless evangelism of hundreds of foreign-funded, cultic, fundamentalist, fanatic and revivalist Christian groups spread all over the State and elsewhere. They denigrate Hindu gods and rituals as barbaric. They are the root cause of tension between Christian and Hindu communities. Why should anybody be surprised if the ‘extremists’ among Hindus are offended and react violently? It is high time leaders of the established mainline churches, known for their erudition, equipoise and empathy, came out in the open and disowned such provocative acts of intolerance of the fundamentalist Christian groups masquerading as real Christians. How can the Christian preachers propagate that their faith is the best in the world without reading what the scriptures of other faiths have to say? My anguish is shared by many. One can make a difference without being preachy
Responsible Govt.By: Appaji Gowda | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 7:57:02 AM Reply | Forward Blaming others has become a trend in todays politics. BJP in opposition is one thing but in power they have to protect all sections.
Root out basic irritants.By: Dr M Mohan Rao, Mysore. | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 7:41:27 AM Reply | Forward Every right thinking "Indian" would strongly condemn attacks on Churches by Bajrang dal activists, allegedly provoked by some mischievous publications about Hindu scriptures as well as forceful and coercive conversions of poor Hindus to Christianity. It is therefore essential to set up mandatory rules and regulations for any religious conversions. A committee consisting of representatives of various interested parties, NGO’s and headed by a retired judiciary officer should be formed at District levels to screen any religious conversions. Person seeking conversion should be interviewed by the Committee and the religious conversion should be registered at the Govt. Registrar’s office. Setting up strict rules to allow voluntary religious conversions would prevent any mischievous and overzealous conversions and resultant violent interactions.
Volience agst ChristiansBy: Natu | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 6:18:28 AM Reply | Forward While I strongly deplore the voilence against the Christians, and seek that the culprits be punished as per law, I will say that the Crhristian organisations are asking for trouble by converting poor HIndus by allurement to their fold. Let them convert one poor Muslim to Christianity and face the Muslim wrath. There are enough poor Muslims in our country, so why are Christians only after the Hindus. Becuase Hindus aer tolerant. All the good deeds that the Christian organisation are doing in the field of education and medi-care are nullified because there ultimate aim is to convert Hindus to Christians.
Enough!By: Dod | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 5:30:48 AM Reply | Forward That's the pot calling the kettle black, for the UPA government. The UPA shows step motherly treatment towards other citizens and that is ok, and after all the hue and cry from the rest of the country they finally acted. Not that the attack on the churches have to be overlooked, but come on people, the Congress and the UPA definitely have a clear agenda and that is to appease only the minority. But seriously people leave the house of God alone, as we do not want anymore violence in our country. When are we going to think in terms of things being good for India and not for a particular community.
Attack on ChurchesBy: G. Narayan | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 4:42:36 AM Reply | Forward BJP has to understand and accept that the renegade Bajarangis are indulging in such acts by design. Their target are the BJP and Advani, not the Christians. That great worthy Sudarshan, even though he was silenced by hids other RSS colleagues, has not reconciled to Advani being projected as the PM candidate. It is time the BJP shoul take courage in both hands and disown and throw out the renegades from the Party.
The danger within- the Secular ApologistBy: The Hindu Awakeining | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 4:04:46 AM Reply | Forward Isnt it ironic that the Muslim community immediately after a Muslim led terrorist strike rallies to defend the accused and air their self inflicted greviences as justified "reaction" and the secular apologists led by the Congress try to pacify their beloved vote bank as the top priority. The terrorist dens are the Madarassas like Azamgarh mashrooming with the drugs and gulf donations which have the sole agenda of destroying we Hindu by labelling us infidels in our partitioned homeland! And what does the Congress do? Justify that these religious desposts are actually secular citizens who have been terrorised by the BJP who incidently is "enemy number one" for the Congress and allies! The Kashmir fiasco in which secessionists are openly allowed to deface Indian nationalism while terming Hindus as vandals for opposing forcible conversions! Muslims are traitors is a proven fact by the partition of India. It was the slogan of Islam in danger which led to Hindu massacre. History Repeating?
SECULAR POLITICSBy: nsrihari | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 3:56:02 AM Reply | Forward It is not a surprise if JD(S)
Karnataka ChristiansBy: D.A.Eswar | Tuesday , 23 Sep '08 0:34:02 AM Reply | Forward The problem is there are differences between Hinduism and other religions.Islam and Christianity claim that theirs is only religion and all others go to hell.Although, Hindus accept Allah or Jesus as God like Ram or Siva or Krishna and as avatars this is not liked by Christians and Muslims. They want to show Hindusim in poor light. We all should accept to live with differences and there is nothing wrong. There is no need to convert followers of other religions. Why Chrisitans are not converting Muslims as Christians?Because Muslims desist and oppose even if they are poor. Unfortunately, Hindus in India and especially, who are poor are converted by Christian Institutions as Christians. It is time Govt.should stop these conversions and should not give benefits for converts. Govt. should support poor people irrespective of caste or religion and treat all religions equally. Hindus need not suffer for the sake of Secularism or encourage Christianity and Islam
