Australia safe country for foreign students: Rudd

Kuala Lumpur: With racial attacks on Indians giving a bad name to Australia, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has assured that his country is "safe" for foreign students. Rudd, who was on a visit here, said his government welcomed foreign students and took their security "very seriously". He felt that such acts of   ....Read more

For a people who are against racism in Australia, Indians use a lot of racist languageBy: James | Wednesday , 12 Aug '09 12:09:45 PM Reply | Forward Since self government in the 1860s, Australia has been a country that is made up of immigrants from all over the world. Today Australia is made up of over 200 'ethnic groups'. Dispite this diversity of ethnicity there has never been a revolution, civil war, assassination of a major public figure or a deadly ethnic riot (like that which occured in Punjab 3-June-09). Racism is a product of a lack of education and there are people in Australia who lack a proper education. If people actually looked into race they would find that there is no biological basis for race at all. A lot of comments on indian news sites have a very strong racist tone. To talk in a very simplistic way of 'whites' is itself racist. There is no such thing as a 'white race', just as there is no African or Asian race (look into it yourself). Also to be Australian is not to be "white", this is something that most Indians commenting on Indian news site seem to believe.
Is Australia a racist country that's not racist?By: James | Wednesday , 12 Aug '09 11:51:13 AM Reply | Forward Is Australia a racist country? It is an imortant question. Recent media coverage in India would suggest that there is no other country that is more racist than Australia. If that is so then Australia is the most peaceful, socially cohesive racist country in the world. It may be useful to look at some interesting facts.Australia is one of, if not the, most diverse societies in the world. It's a country of immigration where almost 25% of Australians were not born in Australia and another 20% of Australians have at least one of their parents who were born overseas. In 2001 Australains who were born overseas were born in one of 240 countries from around the globe. Most people who move to Australia fit in quite well as can be seen by the rate at which people marry people of a different 'ancestry'. General execptions being; Vietnamese, Macedonian, Sinhalese and Korean immigrants who are more likely to "in-marry" with someone of the same 'ancestry'.
We R not in FOOLS PARADISEBy: Simon | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 1:26:45 AM Reply | Forward ya Australia is safe for international students and Pakisthan is safe for International cricket. Does he thinks that we live in Fools paradise. Being an NRI myself i feel sorry 4 those students there in AUS who went their dreaming 2 make it big..I wish Rudd would visit USA. I had been living in USA for last three and a half years and has never seen any discrimination to International students here. The hospitality shown by the America has been great so far.
Oz safe!?By: Megh | Friday , 10 Jul '09 6:39:00 AM Reply | Forward 55 deaths in 1 year and over 20 attacks on indian students in less than a month, does it make sense to say Australia is safe for foreign students? Is it of any comfort to see the Australian media being completely white and not giving any significance to attacks on foreign students? Does it have any meaning that Foreign students who pay through their nose while the locals are either on drugs and booze or state aid, have to now consider paying for hospitalisation? Mr. Rudd is a good man by himself but he is the head of a nation which has institutionalised racism in every block of wood and brick. Present day Australia is comparable to apartheid South Africa 20 years back; the difference being for Money sake Non whites are allowed to be seated with the whites.
Australia safe for foreign students: RuddBy: Dr. Paras Deo | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 13:38:25 PM Reply | Forward What Rudd mean is OZ is safe as long you are European. ' Taking security seriously' means term the racial attacks as 'robbery' and make statistics to suit the figures police wants to give. Rudd may not be playing down the issue but the Aussie cops are.
Why he has to say this, now?By: Kalidas M | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 21:40:39 PM Reply | Forward That he has to make this statement is self-explanatory.
