Battering ram

There is much analysis of why the Congress is struggling, despite ostensibly favourable circumstances. Many explanations are familiar and spot on: the organisational revival is still uneven; its ability to adapt to local conditions remains spotty. There is also a deep problem with its message.   ....Read more

The Joke is on usBy: Manojk | Friday , 1 May '09 2:12:53 AM Reply | Forward Congress was and is a biggest perpetrator of crimes against institutions. The tragedy is most of the crimes are committed to promote the dynasty forever. For Congress, interests of India come last. DYNASTY's interests come first. We saw what they did to President Kalam because he refused to sign a decree dismissing a state Govt. or delayed the signing of amendment to allow dual positions of MPs. CBI abuse, EC Chawla, President patil, Governors manipulation: all these issues are symptom of a rotten party trying to safeguard a bankrupt dynasty and create a system that serves the dynasty's interests. Look at the last 5 years of UPA: There is not even one single vision: Infrastructure growth via roads, River Linking or alternative water management, Alternate Energy plans. None. Nothing. Use CBI to put a case against Mayawati or Mulyam because they have to bring them down in UP in order to make Prince Rahul the PM. We had the law minister defreezing Quattrochi's accounts and CBI's cancellation of Interpol notice to save Sonia's friends. MMS sits there and pretends he is a great economist and honest guy. No one has any accountability because MMS says he doesn't know what CBI did. Sonia does not give interviews. Rahul talks nonsense and does not give interviews and answers tough questions. In the name of secularism, the press decided to ignore the issues of corruption, Governance, Reforms, Ideas, security and act as the judge, jury and the Executioner. The whole press has ganged up to support the dynasty and destroy BJP. They are afraid to ask any tough question to Congress or Sonia or MMS. Sonia is a shroud anyway. She never answers or gives any interviews.

BATTERING RAMBy: SUSANTA CHAKRABORTY | Wednesday , 29 Apr '09 12:37:08 PM Reply | Forward THANK YOU VERY MUCH MR. MEHTA FOR WRITING THIS ARTICLE. ITS INDEED SAD THAT THE PARTY WHICH RULED FOR BETTER PART AFTER INDEPENDENCE SYSTEMATICALLY DESTROYED INSTITUTION AFTER INSTITUTION. ANY GOVERNMENT WHICH COMES TO POWER CANNOT DO MUCH BECAUSE VESTED INTEREST WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO DO ANYTHING WORTHWHILE. EXAMPLE: MR. JAGMOHAN AND MANY MORE. I FIND IT SADDENING EVEN THE BIG DADDIES OF INDIAN JOURNALISM NEVER RAISE THIS ISSUE. PROBABLY EVERYONE WANTS TO BE PART OF THE LOOT. ONLY DISCOURSE NOW WE SEE IN TV OR PRINT IS HOW TO SAVE INDIA FROM COMMUNALISM. IS THIS AN ISSUE?? WHETHER MODI IS GETTING BIGGER THAN ADVANI. IS THIS AN ISSUE TO BE DISCUSSED FOR 15 MIN ON PRIME TIME. ISN'T IT RIDICULOUS. ON 16 MAY WE WILL SEE ALL THE PUNDITS SHUTTLING FROM ONE CHANNEL TO ANOTHER AND SHARE THEIR VIEWS ON WHO IS MORE COMMUNAL AND WHO CAN SUPPORT WHOM. NOT A WORD WILL BE UTTERED ON GOVERNANCE, PRICE RISE AND NAXAL MENACE BECAUSE DELHI IS YET TO COME UNDER NAXAL THREAT. TILL THEN SNORE!!! MR. MEHTA KEEP ENLIGHTENING US ABOUT THE SORRY STATE OF AFFAIRS IN OUR COUNTRY.
Excellent analysisBy: oldindian | Wednesday , 29 Apr '09 10:31:41 AM Reply | Forward Excellent article. Institutions are normally born and given mandate, when the society as a whole is able to raise above partisan interests and see need for institutions that can act as a guide, mediator, mentor, inspector and deliverer. For that to happen it must be able to identify itself with people of integrity, honesty, leadership qualities and values (Gandhi, JP, Mandela, ambedkar, netaji, vajpayee) whose words the society is ready to live for and live by. The lack of such leader gives rise to lesser mortals trying to assume mantleship with half truths and overblown promises and their clamor for power leads to destruction of existing social fabric. In a way, india has been suffering from that phase over last 5 years where desire to hold and wield power through strange coailitions based on amorous values has led to this state of affairs. The current events are symbolic of that. Even in case of modi, otherwise an excellent administrator, he has not been able to overcome his myopic prejudices and his belief system that holds accomodation with minorities as a sellout.
congress, the destroyerBy: Vijay | Wednesday , 29 Apr '09 6:51:27 AM Reply | Forward While the focus on the poor is sincere - Pratap Bhanu Mehta forgets to add - to keep them poor so congress can continue their Mai-Bap raj. Also Mehta forgets to mention a great institution that congress has destroyed - that of the office of PM. If not now, when - it's time for change!
