OIL PSU OFFICERS STRIKEBy: Rajus | Sunday , 11 Jan '09 19:47:22 PM Reply | Forward It is simply amazing how ignorant and unaware, we(incl journalists, print media, tv etc) are. We dont know the difference between clerks working in govt offices and professionals working in Oil companies! We think oil PSU officers salary is paid from common man's tax! We simply take everything and anything reported in newspaper or tv as true. Politicians and Bureaucrats just exploited this lack of awareness and ignorance among common man to project the Oil officers as terrorists and traitors and themselves as angels / guardians of the society. The salaray being drawn by the Oil PSU officers was last framed in 1997. The pay supposed to revised from Jan 2007 was finalised only in Sep 2008. The revision itself is only Rs.3000 to 4000 per month and stands good upto year 2017 (minimum). Oil officers have seen a Booming India but nobody increased their pay during that period. It is not their fault that recession came when their pay revision was finalised.
goverment ruthlessBy: selvan | Sunday , 11 Jan '09 17:16:57 PM Reply | Forward Oil psu employees fighting for thier basic need of salary. But Govt has to see and negotiate instead,it is going in arrogant way.We heard employees given enough notice to govt.but govt simply rejects.Media also with out knowing information, they are affected the eployees and thier families. As a comman man govt should apologise and look into thier greivences.
Oil StrikesBy: Amit Dubey | Sunday , 11 Jan '09 10:37:55 AM Reply | Forward The medis has been irresponsible to say the least and have toed the Govt Line. The salary revision last done in 1997 was due for revision in 2007 .It's 2009 now and the same has not seen the light of day. The oil companies are not asking for addiitonal funds from the govt for payment of salaries, the salary will be paid from their own funds - where does the govt come in ? When crude prices hit USD 145 per barrel , the govt let the oil companies bleed to the extent that in One quarter , a company like IOCL made a loss of 7000 crores - who is responsible for this - the govt or the oil companies ? Oil bonds , passed on by the govt to the oil companies are just pieces of paper with a lock in period of 10 years , The Govt incidentally collects their taxes on the bonds in advance. The lock in period of 10 yrs means that the burden of payment has passed on to the mext Government - whoever it is - the Govt has also not bothered to keep any contingency funds for the payment of the oil bonds .
Serving the nation wit sweat By: ONGCian | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 23:01:57 PM Reply | Forward I am working with ONGC. All the recent bad sentiment about OIL worker is the creation of wrong reporting of news channels like ZeeNews. Also, this shows the ignorance of common man about the working of oil industry. To say that we are traitors and DESHDROHI is totally unjust and disrespect to all ONGCians who have given sweat and blood to extract some drops of oil from earth.Against all odds,we lift pipe of one ton weight, push pipes with hands of 30 mtrs length and 3 ton wt.Hot mud of more than 65-70 deg C temp used to pour over body and we have to work in this condition only in open atmosphere in every weather like 45 deg temp, chilling cold or heavy rain, this also at great height of 120 ft .I have seen many of my friends breaking their hands, legs, backs after taking every safety precautions. That too for cont 12 hrs after travelling 6 hrs .Aftr passing from ISM Dhanbad, only passion for service to the nation is the only motivatng factor.
PSU Strike and Salary HikeBy: Akki | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 22:26:28 PM Reply | Forward The entire episode has been misreprsented .Compliments to the media that lapped up and presented the misinformation throughout. Forget investigative journalism:it was not even analytical Journalism.was it naivity or reverence to the hand that feeds? The pay revision is 10 years old does the media know it or project it?The confidence in Media Coverage grows by the second.
psu strike and officers salariesBy: rajiv | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 10:25:20 AM Reply | Forward shame on the government for not addressing the greivances of the officers of psus in a constructive manner. the home minister's contention that officers cannot get morre than the salary of the chief justice of india is just so much nonsense. the psu officers do far more for the country than does either the h m or the c j i. unfortunately even the media got taken in by the irresponsible attitude of the government. the psu officers deserve a much better deal
Oil StrikeBy: Ashok Chhibbar | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 6:33:14 AM Reply | Forward What is India coming to? We dont need any terroristsfrom across the borders to disrupt our lives. We have enough of our own in the form of politicians, PSUs,truckers, etc who call for a Bharat bandh or "chakka jam" at will. High time we all said "enough is ENOUGH"! Imagine the entire country coming to a stand still for three days? If the Oil PSUs officers were so inclined they should have talked the matter with their bosses or been brave enough to be dismissed from service and fight their case in courts.
Total failure of Government machineryBy: A.NATARAJAN | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 3:40:58 AM Reply | Forward The Government has to be squarely blamed for this crisis. They have only allowed the situation to get worsen. Once the Strike notice of Unions of PSU Oil Companies were received, necessary steps should have been taken to address their grievances/demands. The Government cannot afford to have double standards of offering hefty pay revisions for Government employees and denying the same to Public Sector employees. What a fantastic hike and other benefits they have effected to MPs, Ministers and others. In the same way, the Government has not properly handled the issue of Truckers strike. What is wrong in their demand of reduction in the price of Petroleum products, when the price of crude oil has fallen sharply in the International market. When the Government lost no time in increasing the fuel price, when the cost of crude oil went up, they should also reduce the price when the cost comes down. PM and FM should understand the simple economics behind this.
Blackmail by Oil OfficersBy: C S Jacob | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 3:27:25 AM Reply | Forward Deterrant punishment should be meted out for this blackmail by the oil-executives. By participating in strike, they lose moral authority to get work done from their juniors. Further, they knew very well that the strike was against public interest. The loss suffered by the nation should be computed and recovered from those who struck work. Why should the tax payers bear this burden? Further, for inconveniencing hundreds of millions of people the strikers should suffer break in service. This should be a lesson to all those working in key sectors, who often indulge in strike to improve their earnings, and in the process cause huge loss to the nation. In India only 7 percent of the workmen employed in the organised sector get a decent wage, paid leave/holidays, healthcare, LTC, and retiral benefits. If they are still dissatisfied they should quit. It is good that the government, this time, did not give in to the blackmail, which is antinational.
PUS officers are not villianBy: MAHESH | Monday , 12 Jan '09 9:45:00 AM Reply | Forward if India is sovereign, secular and democratic country than every body has its right to express his view, his grievance. Govt and media shame on them who portrayed PUS officers who are all engineers, mba graduates from reputed institutes of India as traitor, dehsdrohi etc. without knowing the fact that their demands are genuine and legal. i would like to inform that as said by Petroleum secretary Mr. R.S. Pandy " the salary of jr. officer is 1 lakhs to 3 lakhs" which is actually only 21000... after paying tax of 70000 to 1 lakhs. The other thing it was not the flash strike, union has been pursuing this demands for last 2 years. But govt. didn't give a thought. If we are producing IAS who don’t care about county and the genuineness of problem than what for they are. the total loss of around 4000 crores, the sole responsible for this is govt. they could have resolve this issue within 2 hrs but they don’t wanted to becoz of political interest and portraying them as saver of country by creating the villain as PUS officers.
fooled by the Govt n mediaBy: Amita | Saturday , 10 Jan '09 23:18:24 PM Reply | Forward Jacob i think u r catholic(christan) follower of Jesus chirst who has said -- that the person who bearers injustic is also a sinner as the person who do injustice, where r u and in which world, when the govt themselves can have four time higher increament then without doing any work but just giving faulse promises to the nations, and spreading wrong information thru media and making fool of people like u, who really belive them, i really petty u 4 beliving the media n i ask u one thing r u also been purchased like the media.GOD ALMITHY CAN ONLY SAVE U
