ProfessorBy: Mary | Tuesday , 26 May '09 5:10:26 AM Reply | Forward A great day for democracy; our faith in the impartiality of justice begins to be restored. Let us hope the state courts show the same integrity as the apex court. There are some who need to believe that the police only arrest the guilty. These individuals should pray that they and their loved ones are never in the wrong place at the wrong time. Those who have nothing to hide need not be afraid of the media.
Bail for BinayakBy: J.M.Manchanda | Monday , 25 May '09 22:41:28 PM Reply | Forward It is difficult to comprehend why the apex court is needed to get justice in such cases. It happened in Varun Gandhi's case too. Denial of bail should be an exception rather than rule and High Courts should ensure that it is not denied in minor offences. Every one cannot come to the apex court.
Human rights !!!By: Rao | Monday , 25 May '09 19:26:08 PM Reply | Forward Binayak Sen actively involved in supporting Maoists. should have been in jail for ever. He is the sympathiser of Maos and helping them to kill thosands of innocent people. human rights is just a cover. What about human rights for those who were killed by Maos? Where are the Human right activists then? In this case law is an ass. Full stop.
Don't lose perspectiveBy: Sundar | Monday , 25 May '09 19:09:02 PM Reply | Forward It's an established fact that several so-called educated professionals are working with the Naxalites across India. Naxalites are murderers. They destroy public and private property in the name of 'social justice' and work with these false protectors of human rights to ensure that they get away scot-free everytime. Binayak Sen was put in prison for a reason and he is as responsible for murder and mayhem as the Naxal terrorists who actually pulled the trigger by providing his range of support services. So let's not lose perspective here -- obviously the SC came under pressure from the civil rights gang, the so-called intelligentia from Indian society who spend their mornings at morchas and evenings at clubhouses. When you say 'Justice is done for Binayak Sen', think of the thousands of innocents killed by his cohorts.
FabulousBy: Ambika Menon | Monday , 25 May '09 18:35:10 PM Reply | Forward Dr Binayak Sen is an extraordinary human being, a truly Gandhian Indian, an inspiration to many persons around the world. It has been painful for many Indians to know that he was languishing in prison despite every effort, world-wide, to make the state recognize the folly and injustice of imprisoning so blameless a person. He had the courage to speak out against a patently wrong policy, a policy which will bring us to the same sad pass as some of our neighbours, fighting the very people they helped arm. The Indian state urgently needs to re-think grassroots policy initiatives.
Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical SchoolBy: Bobby Cherayil | Monday , 25 May '09 16:39:35 PM Reply | Forward This is a long overdue victory for Binayak and for the rule of law. That it has taken over 2 years is a source of shame for all Indians, but let us hope that it signals the start of a quick resolution to this travesty of justice.
First Sign in years that there are signs of life in our democracyBy: Anand Bala | Monday , 25 May '09 16:20:56 PM Reply | Forward It took the intervention of the Supremecourt to get it right, but the bail has come through. I saw NDTV running a story, I am sure Times Now will say that they broke the story and the media will fall over themselves to cover him.Where were they these two years?
Long live, BinayakBy: Shawn | Monday , 25 May '09 15:24:57 PM Reply | Forward At last, the justice is done.
Draconian Laws in Fundamentalists' HandsBy: Ronald D'Souza | Monday , 25 May '09 15:08:20 PM Reply | Forward Once again it has been proved beyond doubt that firstly fundamentalists who are vindictive enough to jail minorities and difficult people under draconian laws be it Gujarat or Chattisgarh cannot be entrusted to be stable enough to impartially govern their people. Secondly it proves that ordinary people should make their voices known so that these regressive elements are put into place and their covert actions at subverting Democracy are made known to the whole world.
Amazing news! Its almost unbelievableBy: Sujeet Ramanna | Monday , 25 May '09 14:06:53 PM Reply | Forward Finally, victory is ours! The injustice done to one of the most selfless human beings to ever walk this earth. He has served the poorest sections of this country for more than 30 years. I think, i can safely say, there isnt one politician in this country that has served with the integrity, humility and passion for 30 years! While we have genocide makers in this country ruling over states. This man was languishing in a jail for 2 whole years for absolutely no wrong, that he has done. He was and will always will be a clean man! no one can touch him! After all, after 30 years of service, you are not suddenly going to commit a crime! This wrong has been righted by the Supreme Court. And i feel proud that the supreme court, didnt waste time to deliberate over granting this bail. It happened in 60 seconds. Its these kind of decisions that make me feel proud as an Indian. 'March on, you humble servant of humanity!'
