Colour of khaki

It is the sort of headline that routinely runs through news tickers. The sort which our gaze now too often does not even register. Except that the number of those killed was unusually high. Thirty security personnel, including an IPS officer, were killed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh on Sunday.   ....Read more

MrBy: Dipankar Sengupta | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 20:39:59 PM Reply | Forward I think the reason is universal in most of the countries of the world, except a few highle developed countries. That is - Nobody likes policemen. They are considered as "Can not believe them but can not leave them" catagory. In many countries if a referendom is organised to see about liking or disliking of Police - one will find 90% above is voting in favour of disliking.
Empowering the police Force By: Dr.T.V.Mathew | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 20:18:56 PM Reply | Forward Indian Express is expressing a relevant issue. The Police force in our country requires far more care, concern and attention. They are subjected to all kinds of risks and uncertainty.Recently I visited a police station in Malad to obtain a police certificate. I was deeply impressed by the way they were dealing with clients with a human face.As a researcher interested in Mumbai's labour market issues, I observed during my visit that police labour force works for longer hours, almost 12 hours of duty per day. Then late at night they commute to their houses located far away.I strongly feel they should be entitled to better working conditions and pay.To ensure our security in the city these hard working men and women toil day and night.Let us not marginalize a dedicated group which looks after our security.

NaxalismBy: Vaid S C K | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 16:33:42 PM Reply | Forward Failure of government to check spread of naxalite problem is mainly attributed to failure of our intelligence system. If our intellegince can not work in home country, how shall we counter nafarious activities of countries like Pak, Bangla Desh or China. It is pity that congress government has miserably failed to evolve a reliable, trustworthy mechanism to get prompt and correct information about anti national activities of these groups.
It is each and every one of us who are to blameBy: Krupa | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 13:13:18 PM Reply | Forward Why just talk about the police martyrs? Do we even care about our frontline troops who martyre in the line fo duty? It has been 10 years since our 529 of our army men sacrificed there today in getting this nation back from the barbarians. Do we have even a small memoribilia anywhere in their respect? We here crores of money spent by worthless politicians erecting their statues and protecting pseudo-nationalists who havew practically no contribution to this nation. But we don't give a damn to the sacrifices of the real heros. We live in a socity that does not do soul searching. We are too selfish and ignorant when it comes to think as a nation or society. No society can survive that does not care fore its heros. We can blame congress, bjp or for that matter anything under the earth. But the reality is it is we only who are the culprits here. Unless we change ourselves things can only get worse.
Re:By: Avinash Baranwal | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 9:24:12 AM Reply | Forward Wrong heading editors. We were indifferent to the Black Cat Commandos killed in Taj Operation. The only death which got the limelight was Late Karkare and his associates. So this is nothing new. Good positions only gets rewards in general. Don't you know this?
ManslaugterBy: Dr. Ram Chander Sharma | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 4:55:40 AM Reply | Forward The routine killings of police and paramilitary forces in the Naxalite zones of India is a major security issue and challange before the Govt. It is a known fact that our police in not well trained and ill equiped to fight the gurilla warfare unleashed by the naxalalites. Another major cause of concern is the rampant corruption and favouritism in the recruitment process of the state as well as central police services. The scam in the recruitment of anti Naxal special cobra force is quite recent. One the recruitment procees must be transparent and the board must be constituted just on the day of the recruitment. Two modern traing, health standards are to be fixed for the personals. Three procure modern weaponary and four the most imortant -Govt must deliver in administration of the tribal areas in implentation of the welfare schemes for alleviation of poverty and education.
Killing by Naxalites and MaoistsBy: Jairaj Yadav | Wednesday , 15 Jul '09 3:39:26 AM Reply | Forward Enough is enough of this kind of violence. There had to be assault against these anti-national elements without any mercy. Those state governments that are incapable of controlling the violence also must be sacked
