Comment on Fernandes' statement to which he was forced to retract by the pressure of captains of corporate sector. By: Arun | Sunday , 19 Oct '08 10:23:01 AM Reply | Forward The corporate sector must take labour minister's statement as a warning and should go for a human face of management as industry or labour whatever be could not function not taking account the social situation prevailing around. How could it be said that the same management having no financial crunch for unimaginable amount as salary and perks for the management and serious financial crunch in case of payment to the wage board employees. How could you justify the fact that wage board journalists be denied even regular promotions for lat two decades and the same person when moved to the contract is given promotions on every year along with increase in salary and perks in different names. if such things continue how could a sensible person none think of avoiding such incidents. Neither the management nor the unions should think in impractica terms- Arun Kumar, General Secretary, Bihar Working Journalists Union, Vidyapati marg, Dakshini Mandiri, Patna.
Killing of CEOBy: Gaurav Kumar | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 19:30:50 PM Reply | Forward I was very sad when I read the news about killing. Oskar Fernandes statement was like insult to an injury. His statement assumed that it was management fault to an extent that it justified CEOs killing. I don't think that killing is justified for any criminal act unless approved by Judiciary. However, I got solace by deeper thinking and realizing that it came from veteran politician - had it come from anyone else, it would have been disaster. I am also not surprised that he is still holding his ministry. Manmohan Singh is crippled to take action and the high command has no better quality than Mr Oscar. I am curious to know what the young guns of Congress has to say on this issue. I personally regret for this happening in our country and hopefully everyone will introspect to avoid such griesly act in future.
SAD DAYBy: AMBRISH | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 13:22:37 PM Reply | Forward IT IS A VERY SAD DAY. I AM SURE IF SOME EMPOLYEE HAD SUFFERED IN SIMILAR WAY THIS VERY PERSON WOULD HAVE MADE A BIGGER HUE AND CRY SUCH ARE THE STANDARDS OF OUR POLITICIANS.
Warning IndeedBy: John | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 11:27:02 AM Reply | Forward Mr. Oscar Fernandes, is this warning by the AITUC (Congress' Union that was representing the workers) the same kind that Congress delivered to the Sikhs after Indira Gandhi's assasination
killing of CEOBy: shivkumar | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 16:34:02 PM Reply | Forward AITUC is a communist union. Iam sure INTUC would have been no better
minister sitting on fence!By: Jumani | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 11:24:55 AM Reply | Forward Minister is non commitant on the issue. He asks management to be considerate and admits they have a problem too! This is quite surprising to come from a person like labour minister! This is prcisely how the elected lot continues sitting in their chairs without offering any solutions. It is abundently clear that labour force is at fault. They know that they were hired as contract workers, so how can they imagine the jobs will be permanent? With very nature of the contract, it is for a fixed time, so why resort to unrest and kill the management chief?Ministers comments are bound to give a wrong signal to labour in general, and they may start thinking the contract jobs are same as permanent jobs.Thats wrong.Talking about the keeping people employed, it is not job of a copmpany to do this. They have to manage bottom line. This is like a mob attacking the cinema theatre staff for having to vacate the seats after the show! Will ticket holder do it?
make people grow By: s k sen gupta | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 11:06:41 AM Reply | Forward dear author ,This has happened earlier also in many industries but here impact of hitting was so high that mr chaudhury could not overcome the impact his , which is very very unfortunate . In the year 1990 there was massive agitation by casual labours employed at l
You have been warnedBy: P Bhatt | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 9:53:38 AM Reply | Forward Does this mean that any killing on account of 'contract labours' has permission of Mr. Fernandes?
Unrest in Noida - shocking statement from the Labour MinisterBy: T.V.Sridharan | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 7:45:23 AM Reply | Forward I am very much shocked to note the statement emnating from the Labour Minister,Mr.Oscar Fernandez , rather justifying the heinous crime committed by the unrest labourers. If thiis is going to be the avowed policy of our Central Government, God alone should save our country. Will the Home Ministry try to issue warnings to the State Government in view of the continuous deteroirating law and order condition being prevailing in the Noida region.? Unfortuantely,. the central Government seems to be more interested and preoccupied in fishing in troubled waters of Orissa and Karnataka rather than trying to examine the roots of the problems and it is quite evident that they are lacking in resolving to destroy the vicious roots.in time and acting in non partisan way.
ThuggeryBy: K Sanjiv | Wednesday , 24 Sep '08 7:22:53 AM Reply | Forward The ministers comments are downright criminal and stupid. Any employment is better than no employment. His party that has been in government for more than 45 years has not yet put in place some social security system. His party is responsible for this gruesome incident. The less said about antisocial elements going about under the euphemism 'cadre' the better
