Deadly confusion

Commandos do not normally address press conferences. Like spies, special operations units are supposed to work in the shadows: after the daring, successful, rescue of Israeli hostages in Entebbe in the ’70s, the leader of the rescue mission was persuaded to speak, but was never pleased about ha  ....Read more

why biased against the security forces?By: Yash | Monday , 1 Dec '08 9:28:06 AM Reply | Forward Dear Shekhar, when there was a need for speaking to the press, no one was willing because, they had no answers, and were scared of the pointed questions. this was the time when Army stepped in. Naval Marcos, had to do that press conference against their wishes, because of reasons u may not be able to fathom (anyone who has any exposure to special forces, will be able to make out). but it was nice of the indian express commandos to find fault with the only establishment which was functioning. NSG was not willing to speak to the press for obvious reasons, but when the bureaucrats realised the mileage being gained they immediately sent dutt (DG NSG) to show his face there. whatever these army officers spoke, was like a professional, and only what was possible to speak. it was also becoming a necessity because of the speculations being carried out by the channels. command? who was willing to take charge of the situation?
taj attackBy: bhupinder | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 23:29:28 PM Reply | Forward We need a lots of innovation so that at least our forces can think like the terrorists. We have some moves planned with each kind of attack which is possible with current kind of tools(man, machine ,information). The thinking and then implementation in one step advance of terrorists can save the current insecurity
This columnBy: Mr Kumar | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 23:04:43 PM Reply | Forward it is crap like this which destroys our country's confidence. you need to blame the politicians and the media for trying to be in the limelight all the time. for a change, i do want to hear the commandos views. perhaps, you would like to join a team before you can justify the bullshit your are talking about. these commandos are just as commendable as the foreign commandos you cite. get a life AH.
Bias Against The Armed ForcesBy: An Indian Citizen | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 21:39:37 PM Reply | Forward Mr Shekhar Gupta is well known in this Country, more as an Armed Forces Basher, remember his article "Its The Uniform" on 03 Sep 2008?
Deadly delibrate confusionBy: Vinod | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 21:34:13 PM Reply | Forward It is because of the simple reason. Our politicians do not want to say any thing which seems to be pro non muslim or anti muslim. Since it was established that the attackers were muslims, the politicians shied away to say any thing about the success of the mission simply because they will have to mention that the terrorists were muslims, hence they shall loose muslim votes. As a passing remark, I may ask, why any prominent political leader did not attend the last rites of Sam Manikshaw? Simlply, because Sam crushed Pakistan and attending to his last rites could loose votes of muslims for any party who attends to his last journey. What a respect to the one time hero and what a pity of us.
HELPLESS AGAINST TERRORISMBy: RAJESH RAY | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 21:14:35 PM Reply | Forward This attack is not first one not also last. Still we will have to face more attacks in future till our strong policy. Terrorist, it may be from inside or outside, they know our strength. The know, if they will be killed during their mission, it will be good for their belief. The also know, even they will caught by our efficient force, they will be able to get relief with the support of our inefficient politicians by the name of secularism. We, Indians are more kind, secular than required. We have also another drawback to forget everything. We are not able to collect any experience from independence till date. After any incidence, we finish our duty to show our condolence to victims. But our next generation will not excuse us for our callousness, because they have to suffer for our lethargic mentality. Who will question our Political Leaders ?By: rajesh mahindrakar | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 18:16:20 PM Reply | Forward Dear Mr Shekhar Gupta, Why are your comments always anti security establishments ? why dont you ever question the inefficiency and stubborness of our buerocracy and political classes which creates all mess and then security forces are pushed in to handle the mess created by them.
Karadzic It Has To BeBy: R | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 16:54:49 PM Reply | Forward Put an Indian Radovan Kraddzic in charge and see how a clear command structure is put in place. It may be bad news for Muslims maybe but good for India.
Mumbai BlastsBy: P M Vishwanath | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 13:57:12 PM Reply | Forward Can we really expect any improvement in security when there are so many incompetent and corrupt leaders in the country?
What is wrong with commandos talking with the media?By: Mahesh | Saturday , 29 Nov '08 10:03:05 AM Reply | Forward Dear Sir, Your article asks several reasonable questions about our preparedness. But why should NSG be like Entebbe commandos? Of course, the reason for the success and effectiveness of Israeli commandos is not due to the fact that they are tacit. A commando force can be highly effective and still interact now and then with the media, as the NSG and MARCOS commandos showed. With a country of a billion curious people, and a million curioser media people, all spreading dangerous rumors, I feel it is only right for the commandos to clear the air, now and then.Sincerely,Mahesh
