Dhoni phenomenon: genius, luck, or magic?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, wicket-keeper, batsman, captain, philosopher. And, perhaps, magician. It was considered an odd coincidence, a funny story about how the stars aligned to shower him with good fortune, that things fell into place whenever Dhoni donned the captain’s hat, and went horribly wro  ....Read more

Dhoni the geniusBy: Manish K | Saturday , 4 Apr '09 21:46:29 PM Reply | Forward The author of this article a month back praised Gary Kirsten to the roof as the architect of India's domination in world cricket but he calls dhoni a magician and sees no signs of his genius whatsoever .Dhoni may not be a genius but his consistent record and the fact that his presence at the helm transforms the Indian team into a victory machine and for so long and across continents I'm sure would help Mr pradhan confront his biases. I'm sorry to say that the hyprocrisy shows up Mr Pradhan as a very small individual and not worthy of representing the IndianExpress group.
Shwag and captaincyBy: Uday Mallik | Sunday , 29 Mar '09 10:27:19 AM Reply | Forward Well said! Three things went wrong- captaincy, complacency and catching. With the first 2 being directly attributable to Sehwag I suggest even the third came about through complacency. Also would Dhoni as captain ever have played the 2 atrocious strokes Sehwag? Remember when Boycott was dropped after scoring a slow century against India because he batted selfishly? Sehwag should be dropped from the next Test as a lesson that the team requires a selfless approach not a devil may care attitude
Ohhhh kunal pardhan knows english literature. but the article is still dumb.By: K UUU nnn aaa lllll | Sunday , 29 Mar '09 2:05:21 AM Reply | Forward What a waste of bandwidth. So yea kunnu pardhan knows english literature and can quote whoever as if we care. But writing such dumb articles in the name of journalism is criminal, and he must be banned.
Lalit Modi vs M S DhoniBy: Kiran Bhanushali | Sunday , 29 Mar '09 0:41:35 AM Reply | Forward The line "he becomes dictatorial when the team is on the backfoot" is related to another article I read recently in an England newspaper about how Lalit Modi might be the best sports administrator in history. He follows the democratic process to keep all members in his support. But when facing a crisis he turns autocratic as the others are too scared and would rather look upto a leader and support him
sportBy: CK | Saturday , 28 Mar '09 22:59:50 PM Reply | Forward It is not mystery for sure. He eases pressure of all the teammates and sucks all the pressure himself. His capability of handling tremendous pressure and perform under pressure works in his favour which makes him a good captain. We can say he thrives on the field when hes a captain and so does the team. Something what Steve Waugh used to do.
Dhoni's influenceBy: Naval Patel | Saturday , 28 Mar '09 17:17:07 PM Reply | Forward Ref: Kunal Pradhan's article - Who cares! Just let Dhoni's run of success continue.
DhoniBy: Prasanth | Saturday , 28 Mar '09 16:05:12 PM Reply | Forward Hello? Ganguly making a rival captain waiting at toss is "worth remembering", but the "8-1" field, well within the ethics of cricket, and which bore into the heart of "aggressiveness" that defines Australian cricket, is not??
dhoniBy: ssriraman | Saturday , 28 Mar '09 14:19:21 PM Reply | Forward dhoni is perhaps one guy who believes in his ability.when he took the scene he was swashbuckling and he first donned the gloves he was criticised forthright.but nothing deterred him.he went on and on . see the poor shewag. he pales into insignificance.even his batting has suffered.a leader is one who brings the best from others.that counts a lot.so let us accept that .
Indian CricketBy: VA | Saturday , 28 Mar '09 13:01:35 PM Reply | Forward Thank Dhoni's parents for guiding him properly from childhood. He is the intelligent person who understands what is what. He stands behind wicket and guide bowlers and fielders. His pushing makes batting people to work hard. Others are not reliable. Hence do not play politics on Dhoni and let him be the Incharge even if he is not playing. See the condition of us now.
Fickle mindsBy: Naresh Kumar | Saturday , 28 Mar '09 12:25:07 PM Reply | Forward Let's hope people don't bash Dhoni if he starts losing which is bound to happen in the future.
