Dream farewells can’t be scripted in boardrooms

So, either there is a VRS scheme or its equivalent in Indian cricket or there isn’t. Either way, somebody is looking stupid. If indeed there is one, it is time to mourn for it undermines a cricketer’s ambition and a selector’s prerogative. A cricketer has a right to play on till such time as he  ....Read more

All for TRPBy: Balaji | Friday , 3 Oct '08 11:39:01 AM Reply | Forward As Kumble demanded, there is a need for more respect to these cricketers. I think the media now tries to oust a cricketer who doesnt generate a TRP for them. Ganguly is clearly not a TRP generator, from the day he was sacked of the captaincy. So, when he cant bring TRP, he is now the TRP. Drop him, headlines. Bring him back, headlines. miss a catch headlines. Take one, headlines again. Duck out, he is old. Century, greatest fighter in Indian cricket. Pity Ganguly. As you rightly said, media cant just give news these days. They need drama. Ganguly unfortunately is their pratagonist!
Open the doorBy: Natarajan Ramamurthy | Friday , 3 Oct '08 10:27:22 AM Reply | Forward For some reason I do not agree with the "knocking on the door" concept in 1996 when ganguly and dravid came inot the side were replacing Manjrekar who was not performing and also was injured and Siddhu who left the squad. in the series before that against new zealnd at home our squad had Kambli Jadeja and Manjarekar as the middle order batsman similarly Laxman got a middle order spot after Azhar vacated it. So in each case it needs the incumbent to fluff his lines or leave the stage for someone to replace him. Even with Shewag I find it very difficult to see him in the indian team if he had not been tranformed into such a brilliant opener. I think in India's case we have had a dream middle order who have been performing and consistent over a period of time. but I would not make the argument that the new players haven't been good enough as they simply haven't got enough chance. Now I think is the time for the selectors to take some bold decisions. we need some succession planning.
