Dreaming a bad dream

As someone who believes Indira Gandhi was India’s worst Prime Minister it shocks me when I meet people who think she was the best. Mostly these are illiterate villagers who sometimes think she is still alive because they have just received a house under the Indira Awas Yojana. Or some other sop  ....Read more

Well said.By: Jasnaam Singh | Wednesday , 12 Aug '09 6:05:56 AM Reply | Forward I completely believe you, Tavleen. Indira was not good for India. She did not treat the kings and minor races of India nicely after they did give away their ancestral lands. I agree with everything you said.
SumeghaBy: sumegha Gulati | Wednesday , 17 Jun '09 12:34:05 PM Reply | Forward A well written article. However, there are 2 points where I feel u need reconsideraion.First,"bangladesh is turning into a centre for JIHAD".Jihad is a beautiful, sensible phenomenon of Islam. The sendse in which the word has been used here is negative.Jihad isnt a wroing pgenomena;but it has been misinterpreted by some muslim fanatics.Secondly, there is nothing called "ISALAMIST TERRORISTS".The word Islam means peace.hoe can terrorists be peaceful?can we,logically speaking, have a term called "peaceful terrorits".It would be misnomer.Anyways, these things apart, ur article about the "so-called achievenments" of gandhis is great.
Indira was bad for India.By: HM | Monday , 15 Jun '09 23:24:39 PM Reply | Forward Indira was a bad leader and a worse person for having broken the promies made to the Royals of India at Independance. Indian Royals gave away their ancestral lands to be part of the undivided India. They were promised two things - 1) Congress will take care of ALL of India 2) The privy purses and titles of the kings will be maintained. Indira broke both promises.Kings gave up everything for a united India and in return they got bad publicity through gov education system and gov controled "media". Constitutional promises were broken and sadly, no one ever mentions this break in faith.Indira's emergency was a terrible time for India. Sadly, too many Indians choose to forget their history. Sadly, this means they will be forced to relive it again and again till they learn its lessons. What happened after her death was terrible news for the Sikhs of Dehli. Sadly, they too have chosen to forget the genocide congress indulged in.Indira was, is and will be bad news for India.
Mr.By: Chimanlal Pujara | Friday , 8 May '09 1:52:25 AM Reply | Forward How refreshing to come across a journalist prepared to express views so widely shared but rarely articulated. The anchors of NDTV and IBN, among others, should be required to read more and speak (or shout)less.
true...true..true..By: siddharth | Thursday , 7 May '09 21:33:30 PM Reply | Forward well said...in a time when the english media is hailing Rahul Gandhi as the greatest champion of india's poor since mother teresas. its refreshing to read Tavleen's article..thanks
Bravo!By: Durga Katyayani | Thursday , 7 May '09 16:45:52 PM Reply | Forward Fantastic, Tavleen! I'm nauseated, to the point of wanting to throw up, with all the shoe polishing of Sonia Gandhi, and now, Rahul Gandhi. In a country which has an educated population of over 350 million, may be more, is there just the ONE family that can generate leaders? This is a bunch of nonsense. Watch the way senior leaders cringe and fawn at mother and son's feet. We are totally lacking in self respect and confidence. Such a bunch of confirmed bootlickers! And to think Sonia Gandhi doesn't even possess a Bachelor's degree. Keep this rolling ....
Superficially informed peopleBy: Ramana Murthy | Thursday , 7 May '09 13:18:35 PM Reply | Forward Good, someone cared to write about this. But this is not a recent phenomenon. I have been following these surveys for a long time and they always follow this absurd trend. One example: most of these young women and men give 32 points to Sonia as Prime Minister and 2 points to LK Advani. - Ramana Murthy, Hyderabad, India
UnbelievableBy: H S Kumar | Monday , 4 May '09 19:55:05 PM Reply | Forward It's hard to believe that somebody from the Indian journalist fraternity has dared to write a negative piece about a Gandhi. Truth must be told
Dreaming a DreamBy: Manghat | Monday , 4 May '09 19:33:29 PM Reply | Forward Tavleen , thank you for being blunt with the realities. A good eyeopener for the ordinary mortals who are blindly made to believe that there is no saviours other than the Nehru clan to bring prosperity to the poor!.It is a pity that a Great Nation with over 1 billion population do not have a bunch of good political leaders to guide and govern the nation! Unless the middle class educated adults take an active interest in politics the status quo remain! I feel that one of the best Prime Minister's India had so far was no doubt the Late Narasimha Rao. God Save our Nation ! A big hue and cry is made now about secret Swiz bank accounts exposure. No politician would be bold enough to pursue this as we all know that their ill begotten wealth is safely stashed in such accounts!!
Unfortunate India with IndiraBy: Jatin | Monday , 4 May '09 17:27:08 PM Reply | Forward It’s less dangerous to give power to an idiot than to an intelligent criminal. Indira Gandhi was a shrewd, cunning, and highly power-hungry dictator who ruthlessly destroyed all the basic democratic fabrics of young India. She introduced criminalization of politics, politicization of education, continued Nehruvian version of distorted Indian history (that glorify Muslim invasion and ignored pre-Islamic Indian civilization), utopian model of economics (a mixture of protectionism, communism and industrialization) and no accountability for any Indian institution, including the parliament. Almost all the major problems India is facing today was either created or strengthened by that lady, Indira gandhi.
