Hands down

There are winners and there are losers in any election. But this is one election India can feel particularly good about. Not only because it’s been one of our smoothest ever — for which the Election Commission deserves the nation’s gratitude — but also because it confirms the positive trends th  ....Read more

40 years of most benevolent secular ruleBy: Dinesh | Saturday , 30 May '09 17:47:52 PM Reply | Forward Dear Sir, Congress is secular? Anyway we deserve what we got. 40 years of 'golden rule' by congress after independence was not enough for the aam aadmi - congratulations for getting them back for another term
Disappointing analysisBy: Pathik | Monday , 25 May '09 17:02:42 PM Reply | Forward I would put Shekhar Gupta as one of the few nuetral journalists in "English" media. But this article is very disappointing. Shekhar Gupta has been with NDTV during this election and I hope he is not going on the path of Barkha Dutt and Pronoy Roy. That'll be a big loss to our already talent starved English media. To say that this is the first secular government without Left's involvement after 1991 is naive (and biased towards Congress?). I don't think any political party in India is secular - Congress cannot claim to be secular because of their past actions and their current politics. Also, I think media has lost objectivity by being emotional and making Dr. Manmohan Singh a hero only based on his clean image - if clean image was everything this country needed then we should be doing very well.
Shame on ShekharBy: AM | Saturday , 23 May '09 15:40:46 PM Reply | Forward There is no doubt that Shekha is a chamcha of Congress and that is why he got Padam Bhushan from them. I wonder some time how late Ram Nath Goenka ji must be tossing and turning his grave on seeing the current low standard of once a great newspapers-Indian Express, due to shameless journlism of Shekhar. Shame on you Shekhar.
Hands Up ShekharBy: Kuldeep | Friday , 22 May '09 19:15:34 PM Reply | Forward Shekhar Gupta is making the reader of IE that do not believe that it is an un-biased paper. He always sounds like a Congress loyal. If this time voters have refused to negativism then why BJP lost in last India Shining election which was first ever election in the history of independent democratic India with a positive feel and note. He will definitely have some excuse to refuse this too. And regarding Shekhar Gupta, I don't believe this journalist. He presented Zakir Naik as a modern Muslim scholar. But what is the truth, search Zakir Naik women right human right etc and see and hear the truth yourself.
VERDICT- RECOGNISATION OF MATURITY OF VOTERSBy: DR.P.L.NAWALKHA | Tuesday , 19 May '09 23:32:04 PM Reply | Forward AT LAST MESSY POLITICS OF VARIEGATED INTERESTS GOT CHURNED WITH ANHILATION OF SMALLER REGIONAL GROUPS,AND LAYERISATION OF TWO BIG GROUPS.A VERY HEALTHY SIGN.SINCE DEFEAT OF NDA IN 2004,NDA IS UNABLE TO FUNCTION AS BALANCED AND MATURE PARTY IN ELECTIONEERING,ESPECIALLY LOKSABHA ELECTIONS.IN 2004,INSTEAD OF INDIA SERVING,THEY ADOPTED INDIA SHINING AS SLOGAN,AND WERE UNDER ILLUSION ABOUT PUBLIC MIND AND LOST THE ELECTION. IN 2009,THEY ADOPTED STANCE OF PROJECTION OF THEIR CANDIDATE FOR PRIME MINISTERSHIP AND CHOSE L.K.ADVANI AS PRIME MINISTER CANDIDATE.A VERY HARDWORKING,FULL OF STAMINA TO TRAVEL EXHAUSTIVELY,MR. ADVANI ERRED IN TAKING PATH OF NEGATIVITISM AND PASSED SLANK WORDED ASPERSIONS FOR MANMOHANSINGH AS WEAK AND TAILORED PRIMEMINISTER.VAST NUMBER OF VOTERS DISLIKED THIS REMARK.MR.ADVANI WANTED TO ENCASH SWISSBANK MONEY ISSUE.IT DID NOT WORK.ALREADY DORMANT RAM TEMPLE,AND BROADDAY LIGHT MURDERS OF HINDUS IN KANDHAMAL ,SUPPORT OF HINDUS,EN MASSE ABSENT.NEGATIVISM DID NOT WORK,

Lesser of two evils.By: Siddharth D | Monday , 18 May '09 13:23:18 PM Reply | Forward First of all, a salute to Dr. G Srinivasan, TK Kidwai and all fellow kindred citizens who can recognize this election for what it is. I have been searching hard to hear a note of pragmatism in the relentlessly partisan and jingoistic tone of post-election coverage in the Indian media. This has simply been a referendum against political instability, and not an endorsement of ruling coalition's integrity. Tavleen Singh's article "Great, now get to work!" appearing on the 17th of may in this paper clearly echoes this sentiment. Happy as I am that the wind has been taken out of the fascist NDA's sails and the Left no longer has the clout to play havoc with policy initiatives, I do not expect any change in the way politics is conducted or policy is implemented in this country of ours. I worry that Congress will seize this historic mandate to simply rob us blind this time, without fear of political reprisal from their equally venal coalition partners in the yrs preceding. Oh, well, Jai Hind.
Hands down???? Whose hands By: Dr.G.Srinivasan | Monday , 18 May '09 5:16:33 AM Reply | Forward There are lots of wrong things in this.As a citizen of this country I am asked to answer hundreds of questions with a single vote. I had been asking myself and all others as to how fair or democratic it is to have an appointed PM. The PM minister of any democratic country leave alone india in the world should be allowed only after he wins an election. This is an insult to the mandates of people that --- election of a PM is not required. Then democracy loses its meaning.Should the country spend 2 billion dollars of taxpayers money to not to elect a PM?When was the constitutional clause twisted in this fashion?Again in order for the democracy to improve all important issues should be put forth for a referendum. Again the office of the PM, the office of the President , the office of the CEC , the CJI, the CBI all or appointed and for the next five years they have to be indirectly approved by Sonia. Why not the media and journalists debate on this educate the public.
Blessed GreetingsBy: Dr. Thampi Daniel | Monday , 18 May '09 3:04:59 AM Reply | Forward This time the best Govt. Election has done and hope a very good future for India.
NDABy: T.k.kidwai | Monday , 18 May '09 1:25:18 AM Reply | Forward No changes should be expected in the functioning and policies of NPA-sycophancy will replace merit,as it did inthe past,State department will deterime our foreign policy,World Bank and IMF our economic policy,Sonia will decide therest.NDA if voted to power would have been more disaterous.
