Hayden slammed for calling India 'Third World country'

New Delhi, November 14:: The BCCI reacted strongly to Matthew Hayden's comment about India being a 'Third World' country, saying such a remark was totally uncalled for from the Australian opener. Back home after the 2-0 series defeat, Hayden spoke about, what he perceived, poor ground conditions and inordinate delays d  ....Read more

Third World IndiaBy: Alex | Monday , 13 Apr '09 8:35:44 AM Reply | Forward India is third world and will forever be I was born in the EU and of Australian descent. India is one of the filthiest useless failed 4th world countries in the world. Indians cant take the facts that the Aussie cricket team is among the richest in the world and the best team it will forever be. India will be third world forever. Australia and the EU is 1000 years ahead of india. I agree a lot of Matthew Hayden hes got it in one! India has 80% of its population living under $2USD PPP a day.
gen.By: Canadian | Monday , 27 Apr '09 14:57:02 PM Reply | Forward there are no free lunches in 1st, 2nd or 3rd world. We have to earn our bread by working hard. So, these classifications don't really matter.

You don't even knowBy: Koptwan Indernaz | Wednesday , 19 Nov '08 12:16:31 PM Reply | Forward So, we now know two things - posters here don't understand what 'racist' means or what "Third World" means. It's not racist to call India Third World. It's an economic term. Racism is related to race, not how economically developed a country is. Anyone from the developed world is shocked at the poverty, miserable infrastructure and desperate living circumstances of most Indians. Most Indians have never been on a airplane, let alone lived in developed country. Most Indians don't even know how bad India actually is. And how the Third World label fits like a glove.
Third world.By: PSS | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 16:38:37 PM Reply | Forward So, how does it matter, if we are an underdeveloped, poor, third world country? I does not. What matters is, we SPANKED the aussie team. Heh heh heh. Let me spend a moment and savor the pleasure here, again. The aussies left the sub continent with their tail between their legs. Understandbly, its started wagging once they reached the safe havens of their home. By the way, if you want to be SPANKED yet again, by a third world country, come on over, we shall be only too happy to do it. For, third world or not, we are a better cricket playing nation. Heh heh heh !
Get your eyes testedBy: mischa | Wednesday , 19 Nov '08 11:12:10 AM Reply | Forward Who said we are the first world, moron. But can say for sure australia is not 1st nor 2nd nor 3rd world but a backward world. Yes that is a new term .Well u wont understand as u are an idiot
If you have to say your FIRST WORLD, your noBy: Craig | Wednesday , 19 Nov '08 5:42:18 AM Reply | Forward Guys, the world thinks your thirld world. Get over it. Places that have to say they are exclusive for instance generally aren't. By behaving like morons over this you are making it worse for yourselves.
haydon slammed By: Gary.G | Tuesday , 18 Nov '08 18:39:40 PM Reply | Forward It is interesting to read the arguments and counter arguments about India being a third world country. Remember this is based on the western definition. We can argue about this until cows come home. The fact of the matter is how dismissive and arrogantly Hyadon gave his excuse for failure. It is not worth to go down to his level. He is getting a lot of attention and as Indians we are throwing mud at each other. The magnanimity of Indian culture is to forgive the ignorant persons like Mat Haydon who is just another sportsman, who do not deserve such attention whether it is negative or not. When we do that we are playing into his hands. This is what exactly the colonoial rulers did to us in the past and we fell for it.
Enjoying my fresh airBy: Luke | Tuesday , 18 Nov '08 10:22:12 AM Reply | Forward Its not racist to call india a third world country. And also there is no point referring to the australian heritage of thieves. More than half of Australia consists of migrants from the subcontinent, Asia, middle east and Europe. Is it not true your economy is stimulated by the use of cheap labor?. That, along with poor infrastructure are what many westerners would deem third world
dont get blown awayBy: makee | Tuesday , 18 Nov '08 15:26:28 PM Reply | Forward OF COURSE IT IS RACIST TO CALL INDIA A THIRD WORLD WHEN IT ISN'T ONE AND THAT TOO BY PEOPLE IE THE AUSSIES WHO CRY FOUL OVER EVERY LITTLE THING. SO CALLING SOMEONE A MONKEY SHOULDN'T BE A RACIST SLUR EITTHER. DOUBLE STANDARDS!!
India India India By: Koptwan Indernaz | Tuesday , 18 Nov '08 7:28:15 AM Reply | Forward The fact that India is in the Third World also seems to means that Indians don't understand economics. Having a huge GDP is necessary when you have to share it among 1.3 billion people. GDP PER CAPITA is the universally recognised measure of economic development and India at the bottom, along with many parts of Africa and some parts of China. For those of us that have been to all these places it is obvious that India is Third Worldly. Along with the other accepted measures like annual income per person, infant mortality, education levels, health standards, airports, roads, etc India is invariably somewhere near the bottom. If you have a problem with these measures, go and take it up with the economic community, who all use it to measure progress. Blaming an old Australian cricketer shows how far India has to go to change it's internal perception and realize it's potential.
reBy: amish | Tuesday , 18 Nov '08 10:33:26 AM Reply | Forward are u a NRI whose favourite pasttime is to throw stones at India though u might be living there as a second class citizen one can imagine from the nasty comments by the aussies people how acceptable the Indians who are living there are
Getting a reality checkBy: Anand | Tuesday , 18 Nov '08 4:51:32 AM Reply | Forward It is not Hayden's fault that he thinks India is a Third world country. It is the fault of the size of the brain that he possesses, which is smaller than the size of a pea. It is due to this size, that his brain cannot process the information that not long ago, he has received US $350,000 for playing a handful of matches in the IPL, which he would not even dream of collectively receiving, even after playing every match for 3 to 4 years in the so called "first world countries" that he raves about. It's time for him to get on the internet or read newspapers to get a reality check about economic growth of India, so that the little brain of his could at least grow to the size of a pea.
