Singapore, November 4:: Sensing the opportunity for a path-breaking peace initiative in the subcontinent, Senator Barack Obama, widely expected to win the US presidential elections, might consider the appointment of former President Bill Clinton as a special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir. In a recent expansive interview   ....Read more

KASHMIRBy: JITENDRA SINGH | Friday , 7 Nov '08 0:11:56 AM Reply | Forward FRANKLY, I BELIEVE THE US OF A SHOOULD BE KEPT OUT OF ALL MATTERS REG. KASHMIR. THEY AND THE BRITISH HAVE NOT RESOLVED NOR BEEN KIND TO MATTERS IN OTHER COUNTRIES. LET THEM LIVE THEIR LIFE AND LET OUR GOOD, HONEST LEADERS HANDLE THESE MATTERS, AND IF PAKISTAN DOES NOT LIKE WHAT IS HAPPENING LET THEM LIVE WHERE THEY WANT TO, AND KASHMIR HAS NEVER BELONGED TO THEM AS THEY WERE NOT A STATE NOR A NATION WHEN THE BLOODY BRITISH LEFT. BRITIAN AND THE US HAVE NOT BEEN KIND TO THE PALESTIIANS NOR OTHER COUNTRIES WHCIH HAVE BEEN DIVIDED UNDER THEIR RULE OR HAVE ASKED FOR THEIR HELP, SO LET THIS CARRY ON AS SOME DAY SOME WILL HAVE SENSE ENOUGH TO LIVE IN PEACE AND BREAK-UP AREAS THAT HAVE BEEN THEIRS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND WHICH HAVE CULTURAL AND TRADITION TIES. THE US HAS A MADE A MESS OF EVERYTHING IT HAS DONE IN THE PAST 8 YEARS AND EVEN BEFORE THAT, AND BRITIAN HAS BEEN A VERY CLOSE ASSOCIATE TO THAT. WE NEED TO BE PART OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL OF THE UNITED NATIONS AND THAT IS NOW.
kashmir special envoyBy: Capt. R.K. Honawar | Thursday , 6 Nov '08 4:51:12 AM Reply | Forward I would like to remind Mr. Raja Mohan that it was not Bill Clinton who made Pakistan vacate the Kargil Heights. It was done by the bravery of the soldiers of the Indian Army who kicked out the enemy from their entrenched positions. Mr Raja Mohan please get yor facts right before you write such nonsense Dont insult our proud and wonderful Army.
Kashmir EnvoyBy: Faiz Hakim | Thursday , 6 Nov '08 0:00:09 AM Reply | Forward What a piece of speculative nonsense? First of all if one notices carefully one can see that Clinton as an envoy to India is not mentioned in context with Kashmir. Although Kashmir could be on the agenda. Bill Clinton is the smartest politician on the planet. Can one see him taking on the responsibility for resolving Kashmir? He would never waste his political capital on this issue when he could do so much more improving business relationship between the two countries and earning loads of money. India has to simply tell Obama that we are not going to give US or any other country any space at the negotiating table and the subject is dead. Why do we Indians continue to behave as if we are a small island nation that cannot assert itself? And why do these professors write such speculative pieces that then gets published? Obama is smart and will work hard to improve business relationship with India and not waste time on matters that even he is incapable of resolving.
KASHMIR THE LAND MINEBy: JATI HOON | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 23:34:18 PM Reply | Forward TWO IS A COMPANY, THREE IS A CROWD.INDIA SHOULD KEEP THAT IN MIND.
Bill Clinton as Special Kashmir EnvoyBy: Johnson Thomas K | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 15:44:14 PM Reply | Forward Third Party mediation is a dangerous game not only in Indo-Pak dispute but also in the Israeli-Palestine dispute. Ultimately the settlement must come from both sides and if the mediators were to behave like umpires in cricket and the ICC and were to side with one side against the other it would weaken the current peace initiatives between India-Pakistan both governmental and people to people. India and Pakistan must believe that they have a stake in each others' peace and prosperity and until this happens no mediation or medlling would work. Until this realisation dawns on both sides in the sure belief that they cannot change their neighbours but only friends; all peace initiatives would have little impact. The educated section in india and Pakistan ought to be weaned away from the colonial baggages of Divide and Rule. If US were to repeat the mistakes of colonial Britain either in Indo-Pak ties or in Israel-Palestine and apply the British tilt here things would get worse.
Special Convoy on Kashmir By: CA Amar Kant Choudhary | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 14:50:41 PM Reply | Forward The indication of 'SPECIAL CONVOY ON KASHMIR ISSUE' by new US government is not practical as India has already rejected any third party intervention in this regard. However, Obama's optimistic view to change the situation between these two rival countries may be beneficial to resolve the so called prolonged dispute. At present, India stands at a new height in world forum and the US also knows its worth and gravity. The US is faced with lots of challenges within and outside the country. Mr. Obama has to overcome the tough financial crisis posed by grim recession. In the present political scenario in the world, the US needs India's support on a large nuber of international issues. So, they are not in a position to pressurise India for any unjust and unequitable solution of Kashmir issue. This is right time for India to exploit their interference for the best interest of the country. In the course of time India has transformed its external policy embeded with experience and maturity.
PRESIDENT OBAMA MAY NOT LIKE TO CREATE ANOTHER CHECHENYA.By: MANISH | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 14:09:57 PM Reply | Forward PRESDIDENT BARACK OBAMA MAY HAVE BEEN TALKED OF KASHMIR ISSUE BUT THE REAL FACT HE MAY UNDERSTAND THAT THE KASHMIR IS A INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA AND THYE ISSUE CAN BE SETTLED WITH BIPARTIATE AGREENMENT BETWEEN PAKSIATN AND INDIA.THE PAKISTAN WOULD GET THE ARES UNDER IT AND THE INDIA WOULD EGT THE AREA UNDR IT.THE JAMMU AND LADKAH REGION IS NOT MUSLIM AND THAT IS THE WHOLE TRUTH.MR.OBAMA ALSO MAY NOT LIKE TO CRAEETHE ANOTHER CHECHENYA IN ASEAN SUB CONTINENT WHICH WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE USA,INDIA AND PAKISTAN.INDEPENDENT KASHMIR WOULD BE ANOTHER CHECHENYA WHICH WOULD BE A PARADISE FOR THE BIN LADENA ,ALQUIADA AND LET.
Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris onlyBy: Manzoor | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 13:55:48 PM Reply | Forward If one has to see Indian secularism and democracy he should see it in Kashmir. How their occupational forces are treating common Kashmiris, firing bullets on peaceful rallies. American President has realized, on seeing peaceful demonstrations of more than 2 million people, what actually people of Kashmir want. Holding Kashmir by force is in no means in the interest of India and her billions of people who are living BPL. If you people really believe in democracy then hold plebiscite in Kashmir which has been promised by your great leaders to us. Holding elections under 8 lac forces is no solution.
Plebicite not only of Indian KashmirBy: Swati Jain | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 21:32:03 PM Reply | Forward Plebicite was never a question of only the part of Kashmir under India. What India's previous leaders promised was a plebicite in entire Kashmir including the region now under Pakistan and China. It also includes the people who were made to leave their homes in 1989. If we talk of plebicite it is of entire Kashmir and not of only the part under India. Stop making statements that India is refusing to listen to people to Kashmir or anything. They are going to haj from India's money, their leader is in hospital in Delhi. When it comes to facilities, Kashmiris come to India.

Challenges for India diplomacyBy: (Dr.) B.N, Anand | Wednesday , 5 Nov '08 12:55:04 PM Reply | Forward Sir With the election of Mr Barak Obama as the 44th president of USA, India has to gear up its diplomatic skills for dealing with the diplomatic wrangles which are expected to come up during his tenure. Mr. Obama has already indicated the possibility of appointing the former president Mr. Clinton to be a special envoy in bringing about the solution of Jammu and Kashmiir . The democratic regime is going to be active again in pressurising India for signing the CTBT treaty as well. India is very sensitive to a third party mediation in resolving the Jand K issue and is also not too enthusiastic about the signing of CTBT treaty under pressure. Besides dealing with the resourcing of IT projects in India by USA companies, India may have to face the proactive initiatives of USA on these two issues . It seems whatever merit the world may have in the election of Mr. Obama as USA president, India is going to face tough time in dealing more than one diplomatic issues with USA,
