Hours after she took Kasab case, Sena attack forces lawyer to withdraw

MUSTAFA PLUMBER & SAGNIK CHOWDHURY

MUMBAI: Hours after she said she was “confident” and had “taken the right decision” by agreeing to defend Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Anjali Waghmare, a government legal aid panel lawyer and the wife of a city policeman, said she would wit  ....Read more

HANG HIMBy: LALITH BHANSAL | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 15:25:27 PM Reply | Forward FIRST LET THEM PROBE THE INTELLIGENCE FAILURE OF THE STATE AND CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ON THE MUMBAI ATTACK BOTH BEING RULED BY CONGRESS. ANY LAWYER WHO WANTS TO APPEAR FOR KASAB WILL HAVE THE SAME FATE WHAT IS THERE TO ARGUE IF ALL DETAILS AND EVIDENCE HAS BEEN COLLECTED FROM HIM PUBLICLY HANG HIM THAT WILL BE A LESSON TO OTHERS.
Get over your emotionsBy: Paul | Wednesday , 1 Apr '09 1:03:41 AM Reply | Forward This is a democracy you moron!!!!.Even criminal has a right to have attorney. Go check other western countries. Even gitmo prisoners are getting civil lawyers in america. Get over your emotions. Who told you that democracy is easy to handle. connetionsBy: Jinder | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 13:56:33 PM Reply | Forward If Kasab had connections with the Thackeray family like Sunjay Dutt, he might have gotten away
People's judgementBy: Naveed | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 13:18:02 PM Reply | Forward Why we are treating this terrorist as a VIP? with all sort of security, media attention, allowing lawyers to defend? Ask the victims dear ones (both hindus and muslims) they will give the judgement.
Terrorist is getting the treatment for the sake of Justice in IndiaBy: Giri | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 21:37:27 PM Reply | Forward HiKasab is the lone surviving terrorist and we want to render Justice that he denied his victims. He is getting the treatment because he is in the judicial process. I believe it is high time the case is transferred away from Mumbai. There is no chance of justice to Kasab in Mumbai. I too feel that he has to get the maximum punishment, may be death penalty. But it has to be after the complete judicial process. We owe this not to Kasab but to the entire world.
Kasab'd defenseBy: Naim Naqvi | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 10:24:33 AM Reply | Forward Irrespective of the final decision Mrs. Waghmare takes about her pursuing the case of Kasab it clear to everyone that she was going to defend the indefensible. There is nothing much to argue and the trial is merely a formality. She has not taken up Kasab case like Ram Jetjmalani's usual adventures. She was going to take up the case at the behest of Maharashtra government. Fanaticism is not based on reason and these organizations are devoid of reason. They are pretending to be ignorant of national and international laws. They don't want to miss any chance to come into lime-light even for all the silly reasons. Little wonder Advani Ji wants a debate with the P.M ! Indian Judiciary can't carry forward the case of Kasab to it's logical end without providing him a lawyer. The delay is legal assistance to Kasab will help in procrustination of the hearing process. It is a paradox that on one side they want to hang one criminal a.s.a.p. and on the other side they want to delay the trial.
not at the behest of Mah govtBy: Dilshad | Wednesday , 1 Apr '09 1:58:25 AM Reply | Forward I think she is a court appointed lawyer. Unless Mah govt is dictating to the courts - the lady had the case thrust on her.And she balked.
Kasab defenceBy: Uday Sharma | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 9:05:49 AM Reply | Forward And I had my 15 minutes of fame.
Obstruction of JusticeBy: Guest | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 9:05:27 AM Reply | Forward It is a shame that organisations like Shiv Sena are not allowing the due process of law. Justice cannot be carried out without hearing all parties and by denying the defendent a lawyer, Shiv Sena is obstructing justice. This lowers the dignity of the nation and sends a message that in India law is enforced only when convenient.
justice for terroristsBy: bhaskar | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 7:29:30 AM Reply | Forward Why all this gimmick of appointing a lawyer for apology's sake?Is the lawyer really going to fight out in favour of a hardened core criminal that kasab is made out to be that is if he is really alive. And rightly enough there are those usual anti muslim lumpen elements favoured by the ruling governments that are supposed to pleasetheir communal bosses with their blood lust. The euphoria and hatred for the minority in this country was never so high as it was generated by the government and the media this time.So any Indian muslim who thinks of kasab as another individual seeking justice is being considered a terrorist..While scoundrels like terrorists of sangh parivar can have hundreds of lawyers to fight the cases and get them freedom at any cost even though their treachery was beyong reproach.Be it any political party, anarchy and state terrorism is ruling India.
Lawyer for KasabBy: Rajendra | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 6:05:58 AM Reply | Forward The people have clearly misunderstood the concept of legal aid. The lawyer defending Kasab would not be defending the terror but tying up a loose end of the justice. It is in rightness of things in a democracy that all possible and legally tenable arguments in support of the accused are heard out before the final verdict is delivered. Providig legal aid to Kasab would be necessary for Indian legal systems to seem fair and impartial in the face of highest provacations. Aren't all equal before the justice. It is silly to direct anger towards any lawyer who might come forward to help Indian judiciary carry out a fair trial.
Think before you act Shiv Saina!By: Lalit | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 5:02:08 AM Reply | Forward These Sainiks are crazy! Do they, or do they not, want a trial to be held so that this worm of a terrorist is found guilty and sentenced to hang. Does the Shiv Saina not realize that denying the accused legal representation is both unconstitutional and counterproductive? It simply prolongs this coward's life! Perhaps they would prefer to lynch or stone Kasab to death like the Taliban? The Shiv Sainiks are not alone in their outrage and hatred of Kasab - but they must use their heads instead of their fists.
Lawyer for KasabBy: sandeep | Tuesday , 31 Mar '09 3:39:59 AM Reply | Forward As a proud citizen of the biggest democracy of the world, where rule of law prevail, i am ashamed of the act done by fanatic elements like Shiv Saniks. They are only doing harm to India and tarnishing Indian image globally. One is entitle to ask what difference will remain between India and Pakistan if we unable to provide free and fair trial to this terrorist. But I have greater faith in Indian judicial system then Shiv Saniks have. Supreme Court of India will definitely step in finally.
