‘I signed the letter, took the cheque and walked out... it was over in five minutes’

Bangalore, November 19: Sandeep Jadhav, a 27-year-old professional in India’s outsourcing industry, had only seen the good times. He worked hard as a support technician in the local subsidiary of an American software company and took home an annual salary of about Rs 5 lakh. He frequently bought expensive sarees f  ....Read more

MeltdownBy: dr padmanabhan | Friday , 21 Nov '08 10:45:10 AM Reply | Forward The new generation of brash overconfident reckless spending brats deserves to lose jobs. What did they think? That good times last forever?Spending on expensive cars that they cannot afford, bought on emi"s,credit cards, buying loads of junk in the mall and lugging it to their cars with wife and kids in tow, eating at expensive restaurants and spending 3000,on lunch or dinner by candlelight. If people have not saved during good times they deserve to get screwed!!!!!
OutsourcingBy: RD | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 22:03:36 PM Reply | Forward Outsourcing in India was built by terminating good paying jobs in the Western countries. Now the tables have turned and Indians are surprised. Where were they when their actions caused the demise of the hourly wage earners in the West? Indian IT companies had their staff trained by the people who they were replacing. If one plays in the global market one needs to accept global economic reality.
Do not worryBy: Satyabrata Sahoo | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 19:45:35 PM Reply | Forward I am sure he will get a job soon. Afterall there is an upturn to each downturn. But I hope he has learnt the lesson life has taught him about money mangement. I am sure he will be much wiser next time. All the best Mr.Jadav. As an employeed Indian I share your concerns, pain and anguish. Any one of us can be in your position next minute/next day. But then we need to be patient with life. Cheer up and I am sure something will work out soon.
Be more enlightened and wiseBy: KVSKumar | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 14:05:53 PM Reply | Forward The new generation is surely more educated than the old generations, but the flip side is that the new generation is less enlightened as the case of Mr. Jadhav. Information is useless if handled unwisely. This is true of money as well. To have a happier living, one should have a fare degree of wisdom.
Troubled timesBy: Sachin | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 13:09:53 PM Reply | Forward Wishing good luck to all those guys for next interview. I like the advice given by Mr. R. Ramachandran,
I signes letter, took the check and walked outBy: Raj Saxena | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 12:44:06 PM Reply | Forward Even some animals in jungle know to save for hard times and it is not uncommon for Indians to do so. But when you forget that you are an Indian under new circumstances as imposed, what do you anticipate.? If you suffer it will be OK but what about your wife and children who will innocently suffer due to lack of your vision. Wake up Indians among Americans' way of life.
Troubled timesBy: R.Ramachandran | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 11:51:50 AM Reply | Forward Sir,The current generation considers the old generation as bunch of fools. Even though in the 2nd and third standard we have been taught the lesson about saving for the rainy day, the younger generation doesn't seem to care a bit. All they profess and practice is, WE SHOULD LIVE FOR TODAY (as though there is going to be no tomorrow). The result is there for all to see. The gadget mania and plastic card culture are really taking their toll. While I wish Mr. Jadhav and others like him get their job back quickly, I will be happy if they had learnt their lesson and start saving and stop being extravagent.
Bad credit.By: Rohit | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 11:14:45 AM Reply | Forward What about being pragmatic about his own finances? Does it need rocket science to understand that money earned is not only meant for saving but also for saving (something taught to us as kids)? I mean why are we following US so blindly? There they have a fully functional social security system which we don't have. So they can risk running up debts while we cannot. The stupidest thing to do is live off credit in a country where the govt. does not bail out those who are bankrupt.
Fooling the peopleBy: KUMAR | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 10:41:35 AM Reply | Forward Our Finance Minister and senior Ministers boast that there wont be any Lay Off in India due to the crises. Is it to fool the people as elections are near??????
Young IndiaBy: C2 | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 10:21:20 AM Reply | Forward It required a crash in USA to make our merry spending youngsters come to earth and realise what values are about. They did not listen to truth being said by elders and chose to ignore them at their peril. They called themselves, modern, secular and forward looking, but they ended themselves up in the hole. They claimed themselves to be knowledge industry, but then they did not have the know how as to how tide over a crisis. They knew Drucker and others but not the Indian management gurus like Valluvar, Adi Sankara, Buddha, Andal, Ramana, Bharathi and JK. They looked to a country where children use guns like toys, for enlightenment, but they actually got blinded. Look into yourself, find yourself, the problems and solutions lie within not outside. Just like rust destroys the iron from within, one is destroyed not by any outside force, but from within. Now we know that our educational system does not help us in crisis management. Look to the sages and get solutions, O Bharat!
Jadhav Reply to C2By: Prasad | Thursday , 20 Nov '08 13:50:47 PM Reply | Forward Well written. Todays youngsters feel that spending lots of money on latest gadgets, wearing trendy clothes, riding latest vehicles and impressing chics is the best way of the lane in fast life, all borrowed blindly from America. The wrold has crashed because Americans have spent 800 billion dollars more thru their credit cards than their actual income. The falout is the entire world is facing the heat. Hope this dude understands and learns a lesson from this situation. Wish him good luck.
