In my view only constable Ombare deserved it out of all the policemen. The difference between the citations read out for Army men and their police counterparts clearly indicated that policemen died in first burst of fire, whereas Army men died fighting terrorists despite being hit. Let us not dilute the importance of these awards. It is OK for NDTV to award all as heroes, but Govt should be carefull in these matters.
The AwardBy: Dinesh K Kapila | Friday , 23 Jan '09 22:35:14 PM Reply | Forward I salute the dedication and sacrifice of the ADGP Mr Karkare, Mr Kamte and Mr Salaskar in the recent attack on Mumbai but the Ashoka Chakra is to be awarded for the most conspicuous bravery or valour. These three dedicated policemen died in the line of fire while performing their duties dligently, but may i respectfully submit that it may not be to the standards of the award. They were shot down at the hospital before they could really take part is an actual intense operation wherein individual acts of immense valour were to be performed. These three officers were undoubtedly brave, diligent, devoted, patriotic and their sacrifice is true and with the highest traditions and deserves to be saluted and deeply respected. My only point - the award of the Ashoka Chakra. Nations are very selective in handing out such awards and emotions have to be controlled in such cases. I repeat my deep respects for the sacrifices
