They have the privilege and the resources to enter the public arena. There are some intellectuals who serve their Governments faithfully, often against their own conscience, they are obedient intellectuals who conform to those in power and quite often cowardice. There are some intellectuals who uphold the higher values and defend justice, they are courageous and honest. We do not know whether Farah Pandiths is going to be a technocratic and the U.S. policy orientated intellectual or a courageous intellectual who at times may challenge the authority against injustice, oppression and persecution.Will she have a say whether the U.S. should intervene in the ugly world or keep to its own business? Is the US an angelic power that seeks nothing for itself and acts only for the benefit of others? To my knowledge, former MP Syed Shahabuddin IFS comes to my mind as an intellectual who was well balancing as a technocrat and a Muslim leader
