Israel bombardmentBy: Vijay | Sunday , 4 Jan '09 0:57:01 AM Reply | Forward It is ironic that India which just suffered a terrorist attack at the hands of Pakistani terrorists would side with a similiar terrorist group, Hamas. Hamas broke the cease-fire agreement and attacked Israel, and why is Israel not justified then in removing this terrorist threat? Would the writer rather have Israel do what Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee are doing; begging Pakistan to apprehend its terrorist groups? While we spend thousands of crores of rupees on our defence, but are unable even to prevent Bangladesh from sponsoring terror on our soil, Israel has the will to fight to defend itself. Just like we are surrounded by hostile neighbours who wish us no good, so is Israel. We should be with them, not with Hamas.

To repeat boldfaced lies only completes that picture. Israel, in attacking Gaza, is attempting to stop the daily barrage of rocketfire that Hamas has unleashed since it took over the strip in 2005. That few are physically hurt by those rockets speaks to the Hamas incompetence, but their intent. They publicly state, and repeat, their goal to kill civilians and destroy Israel. Israel, on the other hand, works very hard to avoid civilian casualties, as should be apparent to anyone who reads the news. If they didn't, the death toll would be much higher. Hamas, however, uses this to their advantage, attacking from populated areas, storing arms in mosques, and the like. The leaders even travel with a cordon of schoolchildren, knowing Israel will be reluctant to attack. If only Hamas had the same reservations, Israeli children would be safer.
