But she will need to ensure that her party is not waylaid by the same elements that fomented Naxal violence on the one hand and sought to project themselves as saviours from the Naxals and the "bourgeosie elite and their police" on the other, sacrificing so many lives and livelihoods in their heartless quest for power. The CPM is smart and wily in the games that they play and Mamata Banerjee would be well advised to cement her alliance with the Indian National Congress, and especially its sagacious top leadership, in order to be able to navigate herself, her party, her alliance and the people of Bengal past the menace of the Marxists and the Maoists through the waste, decay, stagnation, hatred and loss of faith that are writ large all over Bengal.
