The terrorists have been successful in playing the minority – majority card by even roping in the so called lawmakers of our country to question the legitimacy of arrests and encounters. For any arrest that is made by the police from a minority community, the arrest becomes an ‘issue’ and requires a ‘judicial probe.’ If the finding of the ‘judicial probe’ is not in favour of the minority community then the probe itself becomes false. In other words, the minority community will never be satisfied with a judgment until it’s in their favour.

The same argument can be applied in the opposite manner; we need to allow the law enforcement apparatus in the country to function without coming under allegations of ‘fake encounters’ because these men and women put their lives on the line for our safety. If they stop protecting us as a result of the dirt that’s thrown on them, we will cease to exist as a civil society. The law itself is uniform and applies to each member of the country equally. All citizens even if guilty in the public eye are still innocent until proven guilty in court. What’s next, will the minority community question the legitimacy of the courts themselves?
