New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday said there was no proposal to hold direct talks with Naxals but it would welcome such a dialogue between the Left wing extremists and any state government. Whose responsibility it is to make a proposals?By: Hary Nambiar | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 6:50:59 AM Reply | Forward A large group of sub rural tribal people below poverty line look up to them and hope that their success would bring an end to their day to day miseries. Main stream left parties have means to raise resources, but these unrecognized political groups have no way of meeting their organizational needs other than extortion. By being able to extort unaccounted money some Robin Hoods among them may be getting richer too. Government at the Center can not control grass root movement of people by killing them. There are lot of well meaning educated people who would sacrifice their good life to see that some progress reach these people too. They often fall victim to police brutality. All that the Congress leaders and government officials do is to talk blah blah and postpone the issue. More poor people will die. More poorly paid police men will die too. This cannot go on for ever. So make some proposal in a hurry.
No Proposal by Centre to Talk Directly with NaxalsBy: M.S.Kamath | Wednesday , 8 Jul '09 19:04:18 PM Reply | Forward All the states, troubled by Naxals and other left extremists since a long time, have failed, for their own reasons to rein in violence/extortion. In fact, Naxalites are growing from strength to strength. A much lesser evil, forest brigand Virappan, could not be eleminated by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for years, even after spending crores of tax payers' money. That being the case, it will be the height of expectation to think that states will be able control and eliminate left extremists any time. Recently, West Bengal took the assistance of centre to control Maoists' assault. In the present circumstances, centre should take very active roll- be it negotiation or control- in dealing with left extremists. It is no more a "state law and order" problem. It is a national calamity. Centre should go ahead even if states object, because lives and properties of citizens are involved.
