Over the moonshine

Legalize alcohol, prostitution and drugsBy: Suvi Nadakuzhackal | Sunday , 12 Jul '09 0:58:01 AM Reply | Forward There is no point in trying to ban or making these illegal. People are going to involve in alcohol, prostitution and drugs. No laws are going to stop them. Only people who are benefiting from these bans are the police who can get bribe or under world people who make their profit through such activities.
Closed eyes, and open hands?By: Bakul Bhatt | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 17:36:43 PM Reply | Forward About the widespread use of drugs in the USA, a comedian had remarked that if a ten year old child can find a drug pusher, how come, authorities cannot find him/them? Family members of this kind of booze undergo unbearable troubles day in and day out. Education and awareness of the ladies and children of such families will go a long way towards reducing such tragedies.
GUJARAT HOOCH TRAGEDYBy: Rajesh Vyas | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 14:58:56 PM Reply | Forward It is time for Gujarat to legalise Alcohol so that the killers of poor Gujaratis are put out of Business. It is also necessary to determine the involvement of Police and politicians who are possibly encouraging bootlegging for their personal gains. Will Narendra Modi's Government put an end to prohibition that is perpetrated in the name of Mahatma Gandhi? As such Gandhi is only given lip service by the politicians. Is Gandhi relevant in today's world except for the tamasha opportunity on October 2 and January 30 every year. Let there be a public debate on this issue of Gandhi's relevance and on the issue of prohibition. It is public knowledge that ALCOHOL is available freely in Gujarat, then why this fuss and deaths?

GujaratBy: Rohit | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 14:30:02 PM Reply | Forward Sorry to say I am from Gujarat and we have such a attraction for Liquor from our childhood, you may call us crazy, we pay such a amount you can only imagine and ask ARMY people how much they make to sell us their Monthly Quota, we can only blame the BAN, I do not know whether lifting of BAN will harm social safety even in late nights at any corner of cities and villages...(the problem witnessed in neighbouring equal safe state of Rajasthan).
Gujarat`s tragedyBy: jaideep | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 13:23:23 PM Reply | Forward I live in south gujarat, here we have always had a free supply of booze from Daman. When i read about this kind of incidents i`m not surprised b`cause we have been and are recpients of adulterated liqour since last 10 years as far as i can remember i`m telling this since i had become sick due to bad whisky sold here.the brand royal delux whisky is most commonly available here.it is the most adulterated version of whisky. Many people have died by drinking this whisky.infact things became so bad thaT WOMEN have started going after the bootlegger`s.The richest MLA`s and cops in gujarat must from south gujarat, given the sale of booze.Navsari,Surat,Valsad districts have never had any probition.I doubt any good will come out of this incident even as i write booze is available, only at a higher cost.u can actually call your local boozewallah and order your drink.i would`nt surprised if one day cops come to deliver booze.Writting this kind of articles will not help,go after the cops
Why Prohibition should continueBy: Deepak K. Mehta | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 13:07:29 PM Reply | Forward Illicit liquor is the only substance where everyone in the media is always on the side of those who violate the law. Even if the law is irrational, it must be followed.People die from drinking illicit liquor even in other states. What is the reason for that? Do we subsidise liquor then, so that no such deaths occur? The media does not talk of adulterated food or impure water supplied but gets worked up about liquor deaths. Why? is it because it is another excuse to bash up Modi? Deepak
PILBy: Partha Roy Chowdhury | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 11:28:07 AM Reply | Forward Why can't a PIL be registered against the Gujarat Government against its bad governance
liquer lessonBy: Kishore Karnad | Saturday , 11 Jul '09 9:18:01 AM Reply | Forward It is clear that the authorities, for reasons too apparent to merit repeatition, just refuse to learn from tragedies due to consumption of illicit liquer that flows freely even today. Thousands of consumers seem to know locations of such joints, except the police, who can and do round up 400plus bootleggers overnight--something they could but did not do all these years. Can the authorities be condoned such a genocide? Even now it is not too late to take decision- long overdue- to scrap prohibition and let people drink what they want and also contribute to the State treasury instead of bootleggers' and enforcement guys' pockets. As for the Ahmedabad deaths, can we expect Mody to act in a way fit for a projected future Prime Minister, and swiftly and severely punish the police chief, as the buck apparently stops at the top? Only then will the people at large and the relatives of victims breath a sigh of relief.
