My family will never ever forget the tragedy and misery that happened to us in Jaffna 18 years ago. We are still living as internally displaced people forced to survive on meager resources. In 1990, the Tigers violated our basic human rights. They arrived in Jaffna ordering all about 100,000, Muslims to leave with little other than a change of clothes. We left all our belongings of value including small jewellery worn by the women, to be looted by the armed forces, and resold through Tiger controlled shops providing funds for the oppression of ethnic and religious minorities. In Jaffna, we had a decent living, had our own farms to cultivate and a house to live and some jewellery as our savings. But we lost everything. It was a big tragedy that happened to Tamil speaking people of different religious ideology while the persecutors were fighting for Tamil liberation. We were enslaved rather than liberated.
