The Haj Committee of Uttar Pradesh has decided to change its loyalties from Air India to Saudi Airlines for sending pilgrims to Jeddah, allegedly due to the step-motherly treatment meted out to the Hajis. With nearly 30,000 pilgrims undertaking Haj pilgrimage every year from the state, the decision is likely to cause a revenue loss of around Rs 50 crore to Air India. ------------------------------------------ %u201CWe have decided not to take the services of Air India for our Haj pilgrims,%u201D said Mohammad Jawed Khan, deputy secretary of the UP Haj Committee. But is the government actually providing any financial support to the Hajis? I don%u2019t think so. The government is only subsidising their air tickets because the airlines they are travelling with belongs to the government. In other words it is a discount on an overpriced product. There are many companies that provide discounts to their regular users. What we fail to appreciate is that these Hajis are providing atleast 84 crores as revenue to Air India per year, year after year for the pathetic service they receive in return. Is it merely a rumour that the worst Air India carriers are employed by Air India for the Haj travel? Last year, on its way back, one of the Air India plane broke down. It has to be grounded in Sharjah for a full night. The Hajis were told that they would have to spend the entire night in the plane. Customer service anyone?

Whereas if the Congress or some other party courts Muslims it is only for vote bank. If the BJP promises Scheduled Tribe status to Gujjars at the time of elections in Rajasthan, it is not appeasing casteist sentiments for vote bank, but if the Congress does that it is vote bank. If the BJP Governments of Chattisgarh, MP and Karnataka offers freebies and give aways to poorer sections, it is a welfare measure, but if the Congress does the same it is for vote bank. All that development India had was only during the NDA reign as before that people in Cities and urban towns were only going in bullock carts, not using Telephone, mobiles, TV etc.. There were no Computer revolution, giant public sector units, agricultural revolution, nothing. All happened only during the so-called India shining period of NDA. Nothing happened during the five decade rule of Congress except raising poverty levels. Will anybody with some semblance of brain in their head agree to this ?
