Rare Musharraf gesture: temple visit and talk of unity

Last Tuesday, Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf did something, and also said something, which is rare in the political history of this Islamic Republic. He visited a Hindu temple in Karachi and said, “Places of worship of all religions, including Hinduism, were an integral part of the cul  ....Read more

Indians are ready to be cheated.. No fault of people who are killing us from last 1400 years.By: Dee | Wednesday , 18 Mar '09 4:37:07 AM Reply | Forward Do you know- Hitler announced himself as an Aryan and hold Gita in one hand and Swastik on other and killed 6 million Jews...Does it take only one statement to make billion people fool. I am very sorry to see this.
Well, well - a true Sanjay DuttBy: Surekha | Tuesday , 17 Mar '09 23:15:47 PM Reply | Forward He has done it again, only concern is Congress is being made holding the crying baby, who in turn passes the buck down to the lot of us !
Musharraf's temple visitBy: S.Madhavan | Tuesday , 17 Mar '09 7:57:53 AM Reply | Forward I think Musharraf means what he says.It is especially surprising because from all accounts Hindus do not count for anything in Pakisthan. No one- not even thoroughbred jehadis can simply wish away the common socio-cultural background of what constitutes India and Pakistan today.
Polical PloysBy: Ronald D'Souza | Tuesday , 17 Mar '09 3:55:33 AM Reply | Forward After being verbally slapped and shaken by the Indian Muslim response not to play politicis and damage the credibility and cause doubts about the Patriotism of the Muslims in India, it looks like Mian Musharraf has picked a new "Hindu" plank to look to please us Indians.
Regious tolerenceBy: Jafar Zaidi | Monday , 16 Mar '09 22:39:07 PM Reply | Forward Musharrafs gesture to be welcomed as it may not have any political overtune. There is no vote bank palitics involved as in Pakistan there is separate electoral system in which Hindus vote for their candates in minority seats. Till now despite various efforts by fundamentalists secular traditions may be seen in Pakistan. Qalandarshah/Jhulelal shrine has not been mentioned by Mr. Kulkarni where Mandir and Mazar exist side by side and there is single entrence to the shrine. Being a Sindhi advani should have visited the site but due to political reasons he does not associate himself with Sindhis.
With age the morals changeBy: romesh.sharma | Monday , 16 Mar '09 16:11:46 PM Reply | Forward This is all politics.Perhaps Musharraf is looking forward to regain lost power. He knows such overtures will soon go around with fast media which will give him new face of tolerance and modernity. One thing is certain that he had shown better understanding with other religions than his predecessors.Fanatic was he never. The only thing that made me to comment is the exaggerated contravery shown/propagated(mostly by Congress/UPA)to Advani's words saying Mohd.Ali Jinnah was true hearted Secular! Here in this report it clearly mentions what Jinnah said and what was his character. Those who criticised Advani and used invectives should be ashamed of their ignorance and foolishness.
Great ThoughtBy: Anurag Jain | Monday , 16 Mar '09 12:49:42 PM Reply | Forward We indians have forgotten to look at things in totality. This viewpoint of Sudhindra, brings the subcontinent to its notice that the basic weave of the social fabric for the undivided india was "Sarvadharma Sambhaav" and this should continue in the contries after division, rather than giving colors of radicalisation to the fibre of the social fabric. Great thought.
Welcome the gesture with cautionBy: Bharata | Monday , 16 Mar '09 9:20:09 AM Reply | Forward Musharraf's overtures towards Hindu temples though deserves to be welcomed, must be done with caution. Paki leaders have consistantly backtracked on their words. So, let us welcome Mush's overtures but not get overly emotional in embracing them. Cautious welcome and encouraging religious tolerance with open mind and firm hands is better when dealing with Paki leaders.
