Remember Bombay

The shenanigans of Raj Thackeray and his Maharashtra Navnirman Sena have shocked Indians everywhere. It is likely that such scenes — of young men being beaten up and taxis being bashed in — might have seemed less horrifying had they occurred elsewhere. But the fact that such mayhem and cold-blo  ....Read more

Coward Journalists have nothing better to write By: BK | Friday , 31 Oct '08 20:39:40 PM Reply | Forward So much is written about MNS and Raj in media... I do not support any kind of violenece neither I support any damage to Public property. What I fail to understand is where were these coward journalists when massacares were taking place in Bihar, even after seeing serious terriorism threat in Assam hardly anything is written about it when 66 innocent people were driven to death and several injured. I think instead of focussing on what Raj wears, eats , drinks ... these guys should focus and provide solutions on how they can help bihar and UP lower the crime rate, provide better education and create job opportunities. These states have most abundant natural resources and yet their progress is dismal. The politicians such as Laloo, Mulayam , Nitish kumar should be answering these questions to citizens of India. People should be prioritizing important issues and not sensationalizing them.
Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri JaanBy: Chandran Nair | Thursday , 30 Oct '08 17:46:43 PM Reply | Forward As one who has been meshed into Mumbai since 1951 as a 19 year old, I have always found living there as mostly, 'mind your own business, and help others whenever you should, you can' since you have no spare time, the BEST, and W/C Rlways fix life schedules for you. You knew Varadabhai, Karimlala etc, existed, along with the super rich, the glamourous film stars, the newsmen, theatre personalities..in fact, all common species of a cosmopolitan society. But you carried on, nonetheless. Now, some more varieties have come in the shadows -the Senas and their offshoots, and other types with bullying, blackmailing, terrorizing as operating methods. Mumbai will still carry on, while those who try to break its rhythm will fall in tune, or get automatically dumped in history's rubbish heap. Vijay Tendulkar cult is still alive and flourishing: Haven't you watched “Ye hai Mumbai Meri Jaan?'
BombayBy: S.D.Israni | Thursday , 30 Oct '08 11:46:48 AM Reply | Forward What Amrita Shah has mentioned is true, but there is much more to BOmbay now Mumbai than MNS and others. It all started way back in the mid sixties when Shiv Sena was born with the connivance of the then leaders of the Congress. I was a eye witness to the goondagiri of Shiv Sainiks in those days as my house was located near Bengal Chemicals very close to Prabhadevi the hot bed of Sena politics.Since then slowly but surely, Bombay ha been loosing its sheen. Let us all remember that no single community can take credit for the development and growth of Mumbai, not even the Marathi community. It has been an amalgam of all communities that have contributed to the growth of this city. Be it Parsis, Gujaratis, Marwaris, Sindhis, Punjabis, South Indians or North Indians, all have played an important role, otherwise Bombay and now Mumbai would have remained an overgrown village. LET US ALL FIGHT FOR CITIZENS RIGHTS BUT IN A POSITIVE MANNER.

MumbaiBy: Sanjiv | Thursday , 30 Oct '08 6:45:16 AM Reply | Forward A flood of Biharis/UPites landing in Mumbai in search of any job does not add to cosmopolitan culture or diversity of culture. It only adds to filth, squalor and crime and makes life a great suffering for ordinary law abiding citizens. What is further disturbing is the arrival of North Indian Feudals like Lalloo, Mulayam, Paswan and Amar Singh trying to capture a base in the metropoly. Even the Maratha leaders from Maharashtra hinterlands could not think of it or successfully carve out a constituency in the city. But Lallo, Mulayam and Gang from North may succeed. Its not SS or MNS who are killing to cosmopolitan nature of Mumbai but the Crook leaders from North descending upon Mumbai.
