Reservation in pvt sector no answer for the future: Khurshid

New Delhi: The government said on Saturday that creating more jobs, not reservation, is needed for the uplift of weaker sections of society. "I am not a great votary of reservation. I don't believe reservation is the answer for the future," Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said in New Delhi at a   ....Read more

ReservationBy: Krishnaswamy Balaji | Tuesday , 7 Jul '09 6:34:01 AM Reply | Forward Well spoken Khurshid! It is time to overcome the minorities by empowering them by education and not by weakening them with reservation. This sort of negative support will never allow them to standup of their own. Why Indians are doing well abroad, it is because, they have lived their life with such a great competition in India and they find it is very easy to score well in all fronts abroad. By reservation, you weaken them to survive outside your domain. If anybody who wants to advocate such reservations, they should ask themselves whay they have done from their side. AS Gandhi said, you be the change you wish to see around...So, support just only one boy or girl to get proper education (empowerment) and you see rest of things will fall automatically. All the best Minister ..
no reservationBy: sam | Tuesday , 7 Jul '09 1:25:25 AM Reply | Forward Reservation based on economic conditions based on past 3 years tax returns is ok within limits. Anything else is unacceptable
ResewrvationBy: Damodar P>Shetty | Tuesday , 7 Jul '09 1:04:38 AM Reply | Forward at least one person spoke the truth and reality. It is not reservation but the creation of more employment is the need of the hour. Well said Khursid Sahib.
No NeedBy: Mohamed Mubeen | Monday , 6 Jul '09 18:18:08 PM Reply | Forward I am expressing here about my opinions of Weaker Sections of the Society as far as the Muslims are Concerned and not those of other religions.I agree with Mr.Khurshid when he says there should be more job created instead of reservation. Though I have reservation about reservation in Public Sector especially education, I am against reservation in Private Sector as a whole. Its time, we Muslims, realized that the world is getting competitive and complicated. And its the duty of each and every educated Muslim to educate others and thereby build a strong, vibrant and intelligent Islamic Community. If the Blacks in US had relied only upon reservation, I don't think we could have witnessed a Black rising to the position of a President.Let us all Muslims wake up and especially the educated ones and let us not forget our responsibility to Muslims and others and the entire Indian nation in building a strong, united Secular society.
Minority Appeasing GovtBy: Suchithra | Monday , 6 Jul '09 15:22:40 PM Reply | Forward Great statement. But let us see how far this minority appeasing govt under Italian lady will allow to adhere to what Khurshid has said.Cong is thriving only on minority vote bank
weaker sectionsBy: richard | Sunday , 5 Jul '09 9:00:17 AM Reply | Forward So far the reservation has left the weaker section of the society to live in slums without any pride in their living. Their living condition can improve only when they themselves say and behave like equal to everyone else in this country. Educate them. Teach them how to feel proud as a human being.
How to help the poor and the disinheritedBy: M. Parthasarathi | Sunday , 5 Jul '09 5:24:49 AM Reply | Forward Kudos for Salman Khurshid for speaking the truth. If you really want to help the downtrodden, you have to start with good elementary schools. At present most of the funds allocated for rural elementary schools end up in the pockets of the politicians, and not much to improving the education of the poor. If you want to know how they do it, you just have to go to the villages and find out, but only if you do it informally and unofficially. There may even be a nice building, for there is money to be siphoned off in civil works, but there may not be books and other supplies and, of course, a good number of the teachers will be politically connected and not much interested in teaching. In fact the whole current approach in India is designed to perpetuate the quota/reservation system and not to create an egalitarian society, which is just a slogan to beat the forward communities with. I know this from experience, having worked on rural road/development projects in 2 countries in Asia.
ReservationBy: nsp | Saturday , 4 Jul '09 23:26:35 PM Reply | Forward When through normal route jobs are not allotted to weaker sections, reservation taks place. When PSUs established, jobs were available to weaker sections, now when private take place, no jobs are given on reservation and weaker sections are kept aside. To give equal right and equal opportounity, reservation was adopted. PSUs were created to give more and more jobs to people and on no loss no profit basis. Now a days PSUs become private and there is no aim of 5 year plan to give more and more jobs to poor people also.
'No' to reservation and 'Yes' to empowermentBy: Giri Girishankar | Saturday , 4 Jul '09 21:15:30 PM Reply | Forward Mr. Khurshid, well said. You say "empowerment and capacity building are the answers and not reservation". You couldn't have said it better. Encouraging competitiveness at all levels is the way to increase innovation and creativity. Reservations are a sop that will only result in people getting too comfortable in their 'entitled' jobs and not being encouraged to work hard to be creative and progressive. Politicians and the government should keep in mind that we are operating in a global environment and in order to thrive in it we must bring out the best in us. The society should create an environment of empowerment that is supportive of people to become more and more knowledgeable, creative and productive. Nothing like incentives and competition!
correct!By: vedic indian | Saturday , 4 Jul '09 19:33:25 PM Reply | Forward Absolutely correct. To add to mr khursid, we should have some sort of evaluation mechanism of the effectiveness of the reservations in public sector as well. Reservation is required in this country for some more time but it should not be done in a mindless manner the way it is being done today.
