BJP minister calls modern art pseudoBy: MANAS SHOME | Thursday , 19 Feb '09 16:08:27 PM Reply | Forward Ministers in our country always make crude remarks to buy publicity. As for this case, (1) freedom of speech as per constitution should not harm the sentiments of people in a democracy (2) art as a unique expression of an artist is creativity beyond "cultural norms" (where norms are always shaped by people) and no artist really insults anything - it is always based on popular perception of a specific section of society under a certain societal context only - if you cannot tolerate some form of art, don't see it; nobody binds you to do that (3) understanding modern art, or any form of art for that matter, takes time and pain, watching on and on for hours to really appreciate it - which I presume ministers will not do.

ArtBy: soc | Thursday , 19 Feb '09 13:14:37 PM Reply | Forward Karnataka is a case in study of Fascism on rise. Intolerance for minorities, governmental sponsorship of superstition, inability to bring to justice attackers or women or even attempt to justify it, and now intolerance for art form. Be it modern or traditional art, art is art. Sometimes if it is distasteful, it will disappear from the consciousness. Only what is relevant will remain in memory of people.Who are these folks, with lack of understanding or knowledge to comment on matters of art. Who is the real pseudo-intellectual.
Modern ArtsBy: Hans Mash | Thursday , 19 Feb '09 12:51:05 PM Reply | Forward It is true Modern art is being used as a medium of expression by some Mod Artist to show their anger on Religion and sentiments of the people.SO what Mr Gowda has pointed is true and a frank expression .Many of these Artists may not have respect for any religion and sentiments but by being rude and vulgar they think they can get cheap publicity .Some Artists like MF Hussain have made this as a business model and have tried to sell them to public .If these people think they have a right to show Vulgarity on their Arts then every religious minded person in our country has a right to protest and and the law should punish such short sighted artists .
Row as BJP minister calls modern art pseudoBy: prema | Thursday , 19 Feb '09 7:59:33 AM Reply | Forward It is obvious that the so-called protectors of culture cannot appreciate any Indian art traditional or modern. At this juncture I request our Minister to take some time off to visit the circle Mariamma temple in 18th Cross Malleswaram. I single out one sculpture of a woman on the gopuram that cannot be perceived as art in any sense and would be better classified as pornographic. So Minister can it be left there because it has a religious sanction? What a shame? Please rise wise folks.....
