Russians want another $700 mn for Gorshkov

New Delhi: Just as India grudgingly prepared itself to re-negotiate with Russia on its demand to more than double the original cost for aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, Moscow has conveyed another shocker to New Delhi that the deal will cost another $700 million. This makes the deal worth $2.9 billion,  ....Read more

Dr.By: Benjamin | Thursday , 23 Apr '09 23:16:21 PM Reply | Forward In the first place lets understand what is 2.9 billion $.Is India going to be protected from all trials and tribulations just by acquiring this old wreckage whick was used and thrown by the russians..Why is India behaving so cheap. This cheap backboneless charecter makes us a laughable nation..In fact russia is among the few countries whose people live below the average living wage..Its a coppupt country right from head to toe. All they can tell about India is antisanitary - country of beggars - and cows sleeping on the roads..India is far better and well off than most of the countries in europe as well as russia.Patriotism is lacking with indians and pride. Indians must put a price for themselves and not go around begging cos we are worthy of more better things.
delayBy: javaid | Saturday , 7 Mar '09 0:41:25 AM Reply | Forward india should do what ever is required to get the aircraft carier right on time these delayes have seen one mumbai like attack we dont want to see any more of such defence lapses
budgetBy: Ravi | Tuesday , 24 Feb '09 20:15:18 PM Reply | Forward With this budget India could have bought a brand new French or we can made carrier with state of art weapon systems.
Gorshkov By: Sajjan | Tuesday , 24 Feb '09 20:15:06 PM Reply | Forward Why shouldnot India explore for an alternative aircraft carrier? India should not pay any further advance to Russians until it negotiates the final price. Once the Russian get the advance, then India will loose the negotiating power. Some Bureaucrat in the Ministry will go ahead and give them the advance and loose the power of negotiating real hard with the Russians. Somebody within the Ministry must be advising them to jack up the prices as India donot have any alternate arrangement today. India should try and explore availability of another carrier and ask the Russians to get lost. India should not bow to the pressure from Russians and succumb to their arm twisting tactics. Goverment India should now stand up and tell the Russians that they honour the contract or go to Hell.
Be Indian, Buy RussianBy: AP | Monday , 23 Feb '09 20:02:20 PM Reply | Forward Should have asked the French or Americans to build us a brand new carrier from scratch. It woulid have been launched and operational by now. May be they will remember this episode the next time they have to order anything from Russia.

Congress leaders bought all arms from USSR because commisisons they received were top secrets?By: gary | Sunday , 22 Feb '09 21:41:45 PM Reply | Forward Congress leaders used to buy used and old weapons from Communists regimes as their commissions were kept as top secrets and they became richer and richer by these deals. Now what is the need for this old rusty aircraft Career? why India does not go for better missile defence system? Why not buy better systems from US, France or other western countries? How much money is going to go to Congress leader's secret accounts? Why third time increase in cost? because Elections are near??
From Russia with CrapBy: Mike Vig | Sunday , 22 Feb '09 8:54:53 AM Reply | Forward Our babus have serious problems with the English language and are miles away from even basic negotiation skills. They also suffer from inferiority complex in a white country. They come home buying rotten stuff rejected by the world at prices that includes their kickbacks and Swiss account deposits. National interest and security are only meant for speeches. The ever-growing defense allocation looks good on the paper. Our jawans don’t even have the right apparel to cover themselves in cold climates. They are mistreated on the front and then told to defend us with cheap, obsolete refurbished weapons. Russia has been eating India and its revenue for decades. Our communist inclined leaders still live in the 60s and compromising our self-respect, Moscow is still their favorite destination for arms shopping. Once bitten twice shy obviously doesn’t apply here.
