Scientists re-enact 'Big Bang', prove rumours wrong

Scientists fired the first beam of protons around a 27.36-kilometre tunnel on Wednesday in science's next great step to understand the makeup of the universe. The Large Hadron Collider – built since 2003 at a cost of USD 3.8 billion – provides scientists with much greater power than ever befor  ....Read more

What kind of heading is thisBy: Borun Chowdhury | Monday , 15 Sep '08 8:08:37 AM Reply | Forward First of all the rumor mongers are sensationalists or downright morons. The primary purpose of LHC is not formation of black holes. In case there are large extra dimensions then they might be formed but they will still be very tiny and would evaporate away very fast. To top it all the experiment has not even started at a level where the rumors could be proved wrong. (Even though they are stupid and obviously wrong, they have nevertheless not been proven wrong experimentally). When the energy reached 10 TeV scale then you can say something like this. So even the headline is unnecessary sensationalisation.
yous crazyBy: cha cha | Monday , 15 Sep '08 23:33:34 PM Reply | Forward even if we got sucked into a black hole, it would be soooooo instantaneous and quick, we wouldnt realize we were dead.or, because we would be moving so fast, time would slow down and we wouldnt notice anythingbatches
stupid scientistsBy: Nadea | Sunday , 14 Sep '08 0:02:27 AM Reply | Forward I personally dont think scientists should be messing with any of that, and I think that if its possible that disaster can strike, than your pretty stupid for putting millions of lives at risk just to find out some answers to your questions. Stop trying to play God, you never will be, I think this is wrong and scientists just have their heads so far up their ass they don't give a crap about anyone or anything else but to prove a theory, I say who the hell cares. were alive thats all that matters.
Nadea the idiotBy: Borun Chowdhury | Monday , 15 Sep '08 7:58:04 AM Reply | Forward The LHC is not playing god and if you mistrust science so much stop using your computer. Infact if you don't trust science you have no reason to believe that black holes even exist in the first place so rest assured and do your daily unintelligent things.
FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!!By: justin sweet | Friday , 12 Sep '08 1:53:02 AM Reply | Forward don't listen to all of those deusche bags pretending like they know what they are talking about. The people running this experiment KNOW what they are doing. But hey I can't change the minds of others. I can sure mess em' up though.
all of u scaredy cats should breath...By: justin sweet | Friday , 12 Sep '08 1:49:29 AM Reply | Forward i dont think that this project will create a black hole that will destroy the earth. even if it did, the place is going to hell anyways. just thought i would add a little encouragement.
dont kill usBy: rose | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 20:14:30 PM Reply | Forward dont kill us please im only 5
About Big BangBy: M. Sai Manohar | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 18:55:19 PM Reply | Forward big bang is just an attempt to know how the earth human being and other particles were formed there is no need of worrying about the Big Bang we will pray to god nothing will happe to our earth. Before lankhs of years ago a power blast was formed in the solar system. when the blast took place some particles came out of that blast unfortunately the earth was became out those particles. and more over we are saying that adam and eve are the first man on the earth Big Bang is that which shows who is the real first person born on the earth. ...5 years from now your driving down the road and poof you are sucked into a black hole vortex... Higgs did only an extension of Bose’s theory. i think this is stupid they shouldent mess with things that they dont deffo no what is going to happen i was shitting my self on munday when i found out cz i really thought that i was going to die but after today
CernBy: todd morrison | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 11:52:31 AM Reply | Forward Why would the big bang be involved if there were no collisions? did you actually read cerns plans?
big bangBy: Amy | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 9:13:13 AM Reply | Forward Ignorance. Why mess with something that is no business of yours. The earth is here, it was created by a force that could never be re-created. Say you prove your ignorant theory...5 years from now your driving down the road and poof you are sucked into a black hole vortex... 10 billion dollers gone and so is earth. Best idea ive ever heard!
I agree with AmyBy: Why Me? | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 21:09:47 PM Reply | Forward In life there is always a possiblity that something can go wrong. I understand that CERN is backed by top scientists in the world but what if something DID og wrong? For starters I am sure that people would not want their life ended because of some scientist(s) messing up. Second the world as we know it was created by something that science can never even dream of being in comparison with. It is human nature to want to understand how somethings work. I just hope they dont screw up.
You pathetic creaturesBy: Borun Chowdhury | Monday , 15 Sep '08 8:01:28 AM Reply | Forward Why are you backing each other like two blind people guiding each other ? If you are so doubtful of science then do not believe in black holes for you have not seen one. So if you don't believe in science then for you there are no black holes and no problem. By some miracle if you develop some intelligence then you'd realize that any black holes that are formed will evaporate before they can absorb anything.
What a name By: Dipak Bose | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 7:17:14 AM Reply | Forward You are talking about HIGGS-BOSON without explaining what is BOSON. Higgs did only an extension of Bose’s theory. But Bose’s name is erased out , because Higgs is British but Bose is Indian. Bose ( S.N.Bose not to be confused with J.C.Bose who invented radio transmission a few years before Marconi or A.N.Bose of Bose Hi-Fi)could not get any Noble Prize, but those Anglo-Americans who did extensions on Bose’s theory got Noble Prize. Bose’s theory was not published in any Anglo-American journals, they all rejected it. At the end Einstein translated it and published it in a German journal. It shows the Anglo-American racism even in Physics.
WHY ruin the world????By: krs | Thursday , 11 Sep '08 5:01:02 AM Reply | Forward Why would you try to change the way the world is run??? It is fine as it is... The world should be left to run its course we dont need people destroying this just for the fact they want to use it as an experiment. You are hurting innocent people and this needs to be stopped. 1400 people a day are effected by HIV why not put money towards that rather then try and kill everyone. Do you want more black holes to made.........????
