Sharma needs to embrace consistency, erase question marks

Rohit Sharma has been reminded, these last couple of weeks, that there is life beyond that astonishing pick up shot that he so routinely, and so easily, deposits into the stands at mid-wicket. Just as, eventually, the rude, unkempt purveyors of vile language will discover that there is a world   ....Read more

BiasedBy: Satya Dubey | Thursday , 9 Jul '09 23:09:37 PM Reply | Forward Exactly, the mumbai cricket lobby is at work to praise, eulogise and get select a useless batsman called Rohit Sharma. I do not see any talent in him what ever harsha has to say. Harsha seems to be very biased journalist.
Bombay Lobby at work.By: bobby | Monday , 6 Jul '09 19:50:25 PM Reply | Forward This is classic case of Bombay lobby at work ?Vengsarkar, Gavaskar, Harsha
MiscellaneousBy: Mahek | Saturday , 4 Jul '09 2:11:14 AM Reply | Forward Kolkata hasn't hosted matches because there are plans to renovate that concrete monster.I can understand the frustration with Sharma but why put Yusuf Pathan in the same category? The latter bats at 6 or 7 and is more often than not used as a hitter in the slog overs. There is room for improvement but it's not like he hasn't done well. He was one of the few positives from India's Twenty20 campaign.
Emerging playersBy: Praveen | Saturday , 4 Jul '09 1:55:53 AM Reply | Forward It is a fact Indian players embrace failure more than success. In one match, Rohit succeeded and failed in the next 5-6. You need to show consistency or make way. I am not demanding century or 70s in every single match, but a decent score is always expected. And if you cant, please make way for others, who are knocking on the door. Ishant is another classic example of consistant failure.
EdenBy: Pranesh | Friday , 3 Jul '09 15:04:48 PM Reply | Forward @ Mr KannanAhmedabad's cricket groung sucks and Eden garden is the world's best. That's why Eden Gardens must have more matches. Im not for Kolkata
Why should Ahmedabad not host more matches than Eden GardenBy: R.Kannan | Friday , 3 Jul '09 11:30:01 AM Reply | Forward Harsha Bhogale may like Eden Gardens more than Ahmedabad but why should cricket lovers in non traditional centres be deprived ?Another question is how good is Rohit Sharma ? I do not think any cricketeer in Indian history has been given as many opportunities as has Rohit Sharma. If despite all this backing ( and i do not question his talent), he continues to fail, we need to look for other solutions. There are several talented youngsters like Pujara,Kohli, Parthiv Patel, Pandey, etc who deserve a decent look in.
Is he guaranteed a place?By: Confused | Friday , 3 Jul '09 11:03:27 AM Reply | Forward Hold on. You seem to assume that Sharma will be in the squad for the important Champions Trophy (one chance to assert dominance in ODI form of the game where South Africa is not yet as strong), Australia series and host of other events. Why? When was the last match-winning innings he played? When did he last carry the team? When did he last score a 50? He averages 25. Talent he has. But he is not ready yet. So many players have been sent down back to domestic cricket, shone and emerged better players. Gambhir was an example. Rohit should also be sent back. In the meantime, you also have to reward consistent producers in domestic forms. Class players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane must be wondering why guys like Sharma and especially YK Pathan (when was his last mamtch-winning knock in an ODI) are getting a chance ahead of them? Rahane averages 65 in first-class cricket. Why is it assumed that Sharma will replace Dravid in Tests, who has class and composure, like Pujara.
